Project Summary
Learning about different cultures, respecting diversities, encouraging tolerance are some of many values schools strive for and encourage during their compulsory curriculum. Cultural Diversity for Communication and Development World Day was declared to celebrate not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. Even though we are aware of the importance of tolerance, there are often conflicts resulting from misunderstanding cultural diversity.
Cultural heritage, history and values unite Europe and present wealth and diversity of our cultural tradition. Cultural heritage needs to be appreciated and celebrated. The aim of this project and its activities is to learn about and understand the importance of cultural and natural heritage of every country and consequently unite pupils, teachers, parents and other people involved in the project.
With this joint project we want to show that different cultures can connect, find common values and spread positive ideas of multiculturalism. 48 pupils from each partner school (Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia) will have an opportunity to have a direct intercultural experience, while other participants will have an indirect experience, through presentations and other activities throughout the project. Over 2000 pupils and 100 teachers and social workers will participate in project activities.
Several presentations on cultural and natural heritage will be made, three Flash mob videos about preserving cultural and natural heritage will be published and art exhibitions of cultural heritage scenes will be prepared. We will integrate film education and bibliotherapy, creative and dance classes, e-books with messages about friendship and tolerance into regular classes.
Main objectives of the project are:
– to exchange examples of good practices with school partners;
– to exchange knowledge about how to deal with cultural intolerance;
– to exchange knowledge and competences that will enable the use of innovative teaching methods;
– to organise workshops to encourage tolerance among pupils;
– to motivate pupils, parents and employees to learn about other countries and their cultures;
– to foster creativity in pupils;
– to use ICT for pedagogical, long distance communication and cooperation purposes;
– to encourage cooperative learning;
– to accept cultural differences;
– to motivate people to learn about the cultural and natural heritage;
– to explore the possibility of employing young people in the field of culture;
– to provide intercultural experience, to broaden horizons and perspectives.
Our international cooperation will build on learning about and emphasising joint cultural heritage. Project activities will help to create a safe environment to learn about other cultures, which will have positive effects not only our schools but also on local communities.
