Project Summary
The world has changed a lot; instead of local citizens we have to be(come) global citizens. Therefore
it is very important that young people learn how to behave/ survive in an international world. Not only
because of the globalisation, but also because of the fact that many decisions we make can influence
others troughout the world in as well a positive as in a negative way. Young people have to learn that
they can make a big difference. But those young people first have to realise that they can achieve a
lot if they are really engaged, are really willing to put an effort in something worthwhile, espically when
they work together with peers from all over the world. One of the urgent topics we as global citizens
have to work on together is the climate change. Every day we see and experience the impact we as
human beings have on our environment. We destroy the environment each day a little more with all
the pollution. We can no longer deny it and we have to change our lifestyles drastically now to make
sure that our children still have a future, a world to live in. To provoke the right kind of actions we
have to make people aware of the threats to the environment and possibilities to improve the way we
use our world. As soon as they realize what they can do, people are able to consider their options
and make deliberate decisions. We have to start small and let the actions grow and let the people
involved spread their knowledge. In this way we can make our students more aware of their own
environmental footprint and their options to reduce it and they can be an inspiration for other people: friends, family, other students and so on.
From this kind of actions not only the students themselves, their families and the local community will
benefit, but the entire world. We have to work together to reduce our impact. We have to become
aware that all we do has consequenses for other parts of the region, country, Europe and even the
world. We are not only responsible for the quality of life in our own region, country or continent but we
have a global responsibilty: we have to think local, but act global! You always have a choice: if you
buy a product you automatically support (the views of) the company. If we buy less we produce less
trash and we have less impact! We would like to make people aware that it doesn’t have to be a huge
project or effort to make a contribution. Everybody can contribute under their own circumstances:
small actions matter! To stimulate these actions we want make students familiar with sustainibility:
what is sustainiblity, what products/companies/ actions are sustainable? What can I do myself, what
is suitable for me, what is within my limits?
Working together, thinking about other people and combining forces creates the biggest
effectiviness. Small actions matter! For many small actions together mean a big effect. And these
effects will be spread by using social media, a very effective way of communication. Many succes
stories will be posted on social media to inspire other people all over the world. The more we work
together the bigger our impact. All our actions together, whether big or small, can make a big
difference to the world.
