Project Summary

To promote the best nursing practices-related to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) prevention and control and antimicrobial (AM) stewardship, the PrevInf project consortium idealised the PrevInf project, which aims to improve Asia’s nursing students’ competences related to HAIs prevention and control and AM stewardship. To fill this main objective, the PrevInf consortium will develop the nursing curricula of the Asian partner higher education institutions (HEIs), in the scope of HAIs prevention and control and AM stewardship, through the evaluation of the current learning objectives, curriculum contents, educational methods, and available tools, as well as the involvement of relevant stakeholders (students, teachers, clinical nurses) in an active design process to develop the PrevInf Model. This pedagogical model, adapted to the reality of each participating country, will consist of the best HAIs prevention and control practices based on the latest evidence, as well as practice-based Simulation Scenarios, developed for nursing students and teachers as an innovative educational tool. Additionally, the PrevInf Model will introduce into its premises the requirement to develop the entrepreneurial spirit of young nursing students, enhancing their role in designing innovative solutions that respond to the societal challenge that is HAIs prevention and control and AM stewardship in Asia. The PrevInf Model and Simulation Scenarios will be compiled into a digital book, the PrevInf E-book, containing the latest guidelines of the good HAIs prevention and control and AM stewardship practices, and the InovSafeCare community will be expanded to sustainably disseminate the PrevInf project’ outputs. This proposed capacity-building approach will contribute to the modernisation and internationalisation of the Asian partner HEIs, and the promotion and effective adherence to the good practices-related to HAIs prevention and control in Asia.
