Project Summary
The consortium of 4 partners from countries with diverse backgrounds in music education (Romania, Cyprus, Greece and France), explores possibilities of making a more efficient use of music in non formal education for young people aged 18-22, focusing on digitization as an essential trend and tool and on values such as social inclusion and environmental friendliness and also relying on the implication and modern vision of young people who are studying arts (aged 18-25).
Moreover, the project builds up on several methodological pillars, adequate to the field of music education: active listening- imitation- improvisation- independently developing contents. The deliverables and training methods employed encompass several topics we identified as being essential to fostering the well-being of young people: rhythm and sound exploration and also the use of digital tools as triggers for collaboration. The underlying idea is to have an holistic approach towards the use of music and to overpass the idea of insularity of music use, and focusing on its broader educational potential.
The project focuses mainly on one priority that of promoting engaging, connecting and empowering youth. Young people are exposed in these difficult times to a lot of social and psychological pressure. Social distancing is a new feature of our lives and it is contrary to everything we stand for and believe in. Therefore, through the more systematic use of music in youth work, social work and also formal education, we can bring young people together and restore their self-confidence and confidence in their peers.
The purpose of the project is almost identical with the priority highlighted by the European Commission and selected by us in the first section: Making young people engage in connect in a positive education environment (despite the COVID-19 pandemic), using music as essential connector.
The objectives of the project are the following
1. Improving youth work experience and quality for all direct beneficiaries, through the participation of 16 youth workers in IO development and in training course and another 50 youth workers/social workers/ education practitioners who take part in focus groups and testing activities throughout 24 months of implementation
2. Fostering well-being through music among 80 beneficiaries of the project (participating in a blended mobility or in testing activities for the IOs), over the course of 24 months.
3. Developing the field of youth work methodologies employing music, through the development of 4 IOs that promote a holistic approach in the use of music in non-formal education and through the participation of 15 young students in the field of arts, over the course of 24 months.
The project covers essential priorities established by the EC for the youth sector:
1. The project fosters creativity of young people, engaging young people aged 13 to 18 (as main beneficiaries), youth workers and social workers as educators and also young people who study arts as conveyers of innovation and new approaches in the field of music and arts (aiming at bringing young people closer to music activities and music events).
2. The project fosters multiculturalism, through the use of a common “language”, that of music, bringing together young people from all over Europe
