Project Summary
Hoppeditz & Koledovanya – two curious names in two languages. Every winter people celebrate parties all over the european regions that can be more or less wild, with walk acts, theatre, masquerade, surprising gatecrashes, loud music, rattle & hum. With plenty of singing and collecting, eating and drinking. And lots of fires lightened, lanterns built and stars carried around. Those winter feasts are part of our common european cultural heritage, rooting in the rites of the old years ending and the new years birth. They were embodied in a huge variety in the various regions of Europe.
In our project, our four schools are exploring the winter feasts of our local heritage, and we present them our partners. We came together via the network of our home regions – Upper Silesia, Central Bohemia, Rhineland – Palatia and Franch – Comte – Bourgogne, who collaborate under the name Quartett. Koledovanya in Pokoj is our polish winter feast, a kind of carroling with a lot of mummers play. In Altstadt we celebrate during wintertime under the reign of Hoppeditz, the symbolic figure of Carnival. In Žehušice in Bohemia the children go from house to house, praying Saint barbara and collecting sweets, an in Migé in Bourgogne they participate in the procession of La Saint Vincent tournante – with a great banquette afterwards.
The pupils at the age from 6 – 10 inform their partners via photos, videos and tutorials about their local feasts. The teachers job is it to transfer the lyrics and theatre scripts into our common languages – English, French and German. Herefrom, they translate the text into their pupil´s mother languages. Now, the children can try out La Saint Vincente tournante or the Hoppeditz at home in their own heritage, train their acting skills and prepare for the mobilities to their partner schools. So, from the four translated lyrics our theatre script will emerge: “Hoppeditz & Koledovanya – pentalingual wintertheatre”.
Unfortunately, the Corona-crisis overwhelmed us just one week before the application deadline. The sverly affected schools from Žehušice and Migé withdrew their participtaion in the Erasmus-project. The remeining partners Pokoj and Altstadt deceided to continue and hopefully integrate our partners in 2021 when they have recovered.
At the mobilities, we meet well-prepared with our partners and celebrate the winter feast of our hosts. Here our interdisciplinary and holistic preparations will find their sensual and emotional climax (lots of song, dance & food). At the end of our project we´ll visit the representatives of our Quartett network in Mainz, capital of Rhineland – Palatia, make a carnival procession at the annual congress of the Quartett and visit the EU-parlament with a mumming play and childrens guidance. Since our theatre script will not be printed at the congress, we´ll visit our represantatives later that year in their bureaus or at home and hand out our book.
The teachers will educate themselves in workshops with the topics eTwinning, musical theatre, accessoires and winter kitchen. Hereby they owe the necessary knowledge and tools to organize our communication via new media, distribute our theatre script digitally and realize the winter feasts with all our senses.
What will remain from Hoppeditz & Koledovanya? The winter feasts return every year, and the schools can take up new traditions and theatre plots to create school life, let their pupils slip into new wild roles, surprise and entertains their parents, neighbours and institutions in their heritage. With eTrinning they owe a digital communication tool, well implemented and intensively used. And the newly taken up contacts with their partners from the Quartett network are juts waitung to be activated for further projects.
Because after the project is before the project. (Sepp Herberger)
