Project Summary
From a KA1 on innovating pedagogy, an interdisciplinary team has created this two-year KA2 on the theme of Heritage entitled “heritage, Support for discovering teaching methods with students”.
Strengthened from a previous KA2, the team chose in 2018 three partners via eTwinning : school underperformance, needs in teaching methods, interest on heritage and European experience. Each team with its area of expertise. This team involves new colleagues and an experienced partner.
The Paul Hermann Secondary School based in Reunion Island is classified REP +. It entails enclave status, deprived area, unemployment and European perspectives are remote. Through a dynamic of projects : (2 KA1, 1 KA2), the team is fighting against school dropout, cultural deficiency and family issues with lack of support. To develop the basic skills, our team will work on the theme of Heritage as it is recognised on a global level. This innovating project of educational exchanges is led with three partners: from France, Spain and Greece from our KA1 teacher training course.
The four schools aim at four objectives :
Pupils :
– Fight against school drop out : new relationship to learning, to the environment, to others. Building self-esteem and perseverance.
– Develop skills : improve language learning skills, explore and share their heritage and occupations related to the heritage.
Adults :
-Dynamic of educational exchanges on an interdisciplinary and European level.
-Sharing of good teaching practices to the education community.
We rely on the social and educational value of the European Heritage to promote educational, economical and citizenship prospects.
The Partners :
Greek : students with some learning difficulties, experienced in innovating teaching methods and in KA2.
Spanish : KA2 on occupations, bilingualism, mature students.
French : pupils with great learning difficulties, new to KA2 but the co-ordinator is known and experienced in projects.
All partners have a heritage classified as UNESCO heritage and a strong cultural identity to share.
The schools have already exchanged via eTwinning : to prepare and share about KA1 training courses.
The method used is to create a link between heritage, teaching methods, language and Europe. It alternates explorations, European exchanges, promoting and sharing.
Before the project :
8 cycles of study of the heritage for two years : Unesco, landscapes, populations, culture, art, fauna and flora, religion, architecture.
• To introduce each cycle : 1 school trip and study of related occupations.
• Innovating teaching methods in class (KA1, CLIL, Mindfulness, ICT, Outdoor, Heritage).
• European Club, foreign languages, exchanges, study of us and partners.
• Involve parents and prepare the students to mobilities.
• Virtual meetings of coordination (management, activities).
• Twinspace, blog to keep up to date: reports and events.
• Exhibitions, outreach for families, partners (media, council…)
Six key stages
• 2 transnational meetings (2019 and 2021) to share about training courses and a report book (themes, experiences, objectives and assessment, sharing of good practices, management of mobilities).
• 4 mobilities to share the work done on the heritages studied, meeting with professionals (architects…) and sharing of the teaching methods (Greece 03/2020, France 06/2020, Spain 03/2021.) One third of students and 2 teachers will each time be designated ambassadors.
Evaluation grids will assess the impact: improvement on attendance, quality of work done, results, English learning skills, knowledge of the heritages and occupations but also an openness to other cultures, the role of ambassador and the building of self-esteem.
For adults : the number of training courses shared, the quality of diffusion, interest for the families, the interest of interdisciplinary and transnational involvement.
The long-term benefits will be the training courses internally, the attractiveness and the promotion on a local level(resources), the listing of this project in the school project, publications, new thematic classes, discovery of occupations, to raise an interest in Erasmus+ training courses and to promote European exchanges.
We would like to contribute to the development of a European learning environment for skills. By giving a European dimension to the study of heritages through innovating teaching methods, we aim at motivating adults and students. Through this experience our message is we belong to a common logic of personal development and European sharing.
Heritage is the social, economic and educational interface.
