Project Summary
The project “Wellbeing and Life Skills for the 21st Century” is participated by six partner schools from Portugal, Norway, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands and Iceland.
The main objective for this project is to empower and support students in developing communication and interpersonal skills as to ensure their personal and socio-educational development and employability in the future, as well as participation as global citizens in social life. Through this project, we hope to make students and teachers more flexible and productive, improve their social skills and inspire to take initiative and leadership; all of them qualities we believe to be important 21st century skills.
The main target group of the project are the 150 students aged 12-16 along with their teachers, but a much larger amount of people will be involved, directly and indirectly in our local communities. We believe all students in partner schools will benefit from the project, counting more than 4000 students in total, and through the dissemination of the results and activities, even more people will benefit from the project.
Partner schools will give extra classes and activities in home countries working on chosen topics and developing students’ skills. We are planning for six transnational meetings for students and 2 joint staff training events for teachers, focusing on innovative methods of teaching in the field of wellbeing. English will be our common language of communication.
During mobilities, students will stay with host families and will challenge and improve skills and knowledge they have acquired through extra classes. The project activities will be conducted with innovative and activating methods like Oxford Debates, drama exercises, yoga, mindfullness, sports, arts, workshops, group work, individual work, discussions, hands-on-learning and outdoor classes and lectures.
During transnational meetings, students will also meet with local employers and interview them. The transnational meetings will challenge students’ knowledge and skills and make them more motivated to work, as well as building their self-esteem and confidence.
Within the 2 years of the project, we have the following exchange focus topics:
1. Wellbeing and arts, exploring art effects on wellbeing, where students can exteriorize their feelings and release negative energies through manual techniques, since art is the result between thinking and feeling. Also build self-confidence and practice soft skills, creativity, leadership and negotiating
2. Wellbeing and sports, learning about games, sports and experience nature.
3. Wellbeing and inner mind and body, focusing on improving ourselves as an independent persons and as members of the society through Mindfullness and Yoga
4. Wellbeing and food, where students will explore foods effect on wellbeing, learn about nutrition and the connection between nutrition, physical health and mental health. Through exercises they will improve their wellbeing, build self-confidence and practice soft skills, develop leadership, negotiating and conflict solving skills.
5. Wellbeing and technology, exploring the positive impact and challenges that technology can bring to wellbeing. Engaging in presentations, groupwork, drama, sports, field trips and social gatherings with a view to enhancing their knowledge and awareness of technology on wellbeing in order to encourage positive decision-making and informed choices in their lives.
6. Wellbeing and urban life, will let pupils and teachers experience what it is to be living in an urban city and having a heathy mindset. We want to accomplish this by highlighting the assets of a big city in combination with psychological wellbeing by active learning. This will engage them in their own learning process, because they will link what they have learned to the real world.
In addition, we plan on two workshops for teachers:
1. A healhty mind in a healthy body
2. Wholeschool wellbeing integration
There will be multiple results and products. The most important ones will be:
– students understanding the importance of critical thinking and self-development
– enhancing tolerance and awareness of diversity among people
– the importance of having a healthy body mind and being succesfull in life
– be more open-minded, better thinkers, innovators and problem solvers.
– visible results will include logo, website and eTwinningpage, Erasmus corners, a cd of songs, calendar, Wellbeing Day in schools, Oxford debates, mural, art gallery and dvds from exchanges
Students and teachers will gain unique experience in cross-cultural relations. The cooperation will increase our students‘ sense of European citizenship and help them understand the necessity of sharing knowledge and experience. When the project period is over, we will continue working on eTwinning emphasizing the focus points wellbeing and soft skills, so that students in the future can keep learning and use this information for their benefit.
