Project Summary
The promotion of entrepreneurial skills is growing importance at European level. The financial and social crisis that have been particularly evident in Europe recent years can be outgrown with the development of entrepreneurial mindset and skills in students. This is particularly important for regions which are underdeveloped and with high unemployment. In parallel, cultural heritage is acknowledged both an enabler and a driver of the economic, social, environmental dimensions of sustainable development. This project is a 24-month initiative that is based on the need to incorporate both entrepreneurship and cultural heritage.
The objectives are to:
– cultivate the importance of culture and cultural heritage for growth, sustainability and social inclusion
– foster critical thinking through teaching in cultural context
– promote entrepreneurship & digital education
– link culture and entrepreneurship in order to create new prospects
The above affect directly the target groups of the project:
– Primary: students, teachers (and the school staff) and schools.
– Secondary: local communities, other schools, authorities at regional, national and European level.
5 secondary schools participate in the implementation of this project:
*Zespół Szkół Nr1 w Rzeszowie, Poland
*1st GEL of Elefsina, Greece
*Bafra Atatürk Anadolu Lisesi, Turkey
*IIS Martino Filetico Ferentino,Italy
*Nurmijärven Yhteiskoulun lukio Finland
Each learning activity will consist of diverse activities, reflecting the different educational system and cultures, and the different level of introduction of entrepreneurship education in schools.
Both students and teachers will participate in the learning activities. The age of the students will be 15-18. In each mobility, 5 students are going to take part. More students will participate throughout the project implementing cultural entrepreneurship projects inside each school. The cultural entrepreneurship projects will take diverse forms such as workshops in order to make creative products like paintings of the area, photos, services, guided tours of the city, bazaars and market places.
In between mobilities students will cooperate in four assignments that will be done in their local courses and shared over the internet on a TwinSpace site.Through the planned learning activities and projects implemented in each participating school, the project aims to achieve the following:
– For the students to learn about their region’s culture and the culture of the partnership schools’ regions, broadening their views in new cultures; to obtain skills in entrepreneurship; to address diversity, promote equality and social inclusion; to acquire values like perseverance and motivation; to develop digital skills, through the virtual communication and collaboration with the other schools, the creation of digital media during the implementation and dissemination phases.
– For the teachers to develop skills in entrepreneurial teaching and design of entrepreneurial programmes for their students; to improve team working, intercultural and project management skills. The project will also benefit participating teachers since it will teach them new methods that they can bring back to their schools and teach their colleagues. The methods are focused on getting students to practice and improve entrepreneurial competences.
– For the partner schools to open up links with local communities, to build their European network and their skills in EU projects and to promote culture, social inclusion and entrepreneurship. In the long term, the partner schools aim to increase the number of cultural entrepreneurship projects carried out in their schools. And with the help of these to contribute to the increase of local cultural businesses and the reduction of the unemployment rate. All schools teach entrepreneurship, like how to develop a business idea, how to create a budget and a business plan. This project will focus on actually finding the ideas worth developing into viable business plans.
During the workshops students will work in small groups with participants from the other project countries. In the workshops students will use specific methods and exercises decided and taught by the participating teachers and aimed at helping students brainstorm, develop ideas. The last day of the workshop, students will present their solutions to the other students and participating teachers.
The idea is that the results of the project will be used after the project ends. The methodological tool kit is one result that will live on after the project has ended. Another result that will live on is the new ideas and input into entrepreneurship teaching that teachers will get from the partner school teachers. Not only will they be able to study close at hand how to write a business plan in another country, they will also be able to give a broader European perspective when starting a business or running a company.
