Project Summary
The « E.A.T. » (Erasmus À Table) project connects two schools in Paris and Lisbon, both located in economically disadvantaged communities. This project revolves around France and Portugal food cultures and it aims to enable its participants to work on and enrich their culinary and cultural heritage. About thirty students will be taking part in the project: 12 in France, 20 in Portugal – many of whom face financial hardships and some are disabled.
The ultimate goal of the project is the publication of a book, both in paper and digital form. This book will explore students’ eating habits in France and Portugal, present recipes, and at the same time offer an artistic approach to the question. Food as a health issue, waste sorting and sustainable development will also be examined. In addition to providing an illustration of French and Portuguese cultures, its similarities and differences, the book will present the activities and exchanges carried out over the course of the project. The final report will also include a video filmed during the creation of the book and the various project activities (planned visits, workshops, exchanges).
The participants will focus on four main themes through a variety of workshops and classes organized during the European mobilities and also throughout the duration of the project in each school : food in art, food advertising, cooking and sharing recipes, the future of food (environmental impact, food waste, sustainable fishing).
The French and Portuguese students will be able to exchange ideas and work jointly towards the creation of the book thanks to several means of communication and the project’s TwinSpace on the eTwinning platform.
Several mobilities will take place in each country: French students will go to Portugal twice, and vice versa. Meeting with students from another country will enable the project’s participants to develop their identity as European citizens as well as their understanding of the European Union.
Finding and sharing information will allow the students to elaborate a common cultural and social basis. The array of activities and workshops organized throughout the duration of the project will enable the participants to expand their horizons. It will also help them acquire digital and communication skills, and broaden their cultural knowledge along with their critical and creative thinking.
All the participants involved in the project – the students, the teachers but also the school community in general – will make it possible to build a solid relationship between the two schools that could eventually lead to the signing of an inter-institutional agreement. The programme set up within the framework of the « E.A.T. » project could be expanded to other schools from the same educational priority areas. New projects could be launched : student mobility in primary and secondary schools, reflecting on teaching practices and approaches, pen pal projects.
