Project Summary

The project finds its motivation from a tried and tested, productive collaboration in student mobility, encountering in Gorey Community School (Gorey – Ireland) and ISIS “Giovanni da Castiglione” (Castiglion Fiorentino – Italy) partners of substantial reliability in the realisation of educational, formative and didactic objectives, which have characterised the linguistic exchanges between classes, job-shadowing and teacher training carried out thus far.
First and foremost, student mobility continues to be the shared priority, revised and enriched in its objectives, in terms of educational and formative quality, innovation and effectiveness in a European context. The project entails the involvement of:
34 students aged 15-17 in class exchanges;
2 students spending a trimester abroad;
and teachers who will also be working on formation and cooperation:
4 teachers (2 per school) for job-shadowing
8 (4 per school) together with a larger team of teachers from the host school, who will participate in two joint-staff training and teaching events, one on the development of soft skills in teaching applied to CLIL methodology and its consequent application in Gorey, and one on the use of technology in teaching and its applications, in Castiglion Fiorentino. In this context teacher mobility should be interpreted as the enhancement of their professional profile for the realisation of the modernisation and internationalisation of the education system and of a permanent European space for learning.
The communication between partner schools, other than the usual use of e-mail and Skype, will be using eTwinning as a necessary instrument for learning, documenting the projects, collecting and sharing material as well as an instrument for video-conferences between partner schools for speaking, CLIL, teacher exchanges, and activities involving students and their respective partners; www.framesoft.co/en or www.padlet.com and www.kahoot.com for writing, editing and collaborative learning; MusicMaker and SongMaker for the production of songs which are part of the expected outcomes of the project and the Youtube channel – TG Lurgan.
The intention of the project activities, right from the planning phase, is to promote across-the-board skills, in light of the new cultural paradigms regarding the centrality of the individual (student/teacher) through the reconstruction, promotion, assessment and self-assessment of one’s own skills, starting from that which I know (my past); the personalisation of what I am (the present) and the acquisition of skills, not only in your subject but across-the-board, that enable students and teachers to continue the learning process for their entire lives (the future).
There are numerous expected outcomes: new motivation for learning and teaching, greater linguistic and ICT competency, a new incentive towards plurilingualism, a greater understanding of the cultural and social background of the host countries with a subsequent reflection on our role as European citizens, achieved through the understanding and analysis of the different cultures, particularly regarding art and music, expressed through creative writing of song lyrics or the adaptation of works of art.
In terms of tangible results an ad hoc web page, identifiable by the project Logo and the Erasmus Logo, will be created in which the project’s various phases and activities will be presented, as well as a section of the eTwinning platform dedicated to the project and the production of a musical event resulting from work carried out over the two years, open to the school, families and local communities.
The school “Giovanni da Castiglione”, training centre for CLIL and eTwinning in the province of Arezzo, will organise a Training and Informative event on a regional level, inviting, as in the past, the USR (Regional School’s Office), eTwinning ambassadors and an Indire representative, to present the project. The event will also see the participation of teachers from the partner school, as well as expert trainers and speakers on the project themes. Articles will be published in local newspapers and interviews given on local TV.
It is an aim of the project that some of its outcomes- such as the songs and part of the material created, as well as the formation of the choir – may be sustainable, meaning they can continue to be used and modified and that new ones can be developed in the future, beyond the financed period.
We are confident that, as always, the conclusion of one project will just be a starting point for new partnerships, enlivened by new motivation and enriched by new input. The school of the future is built on inclusion and sharing and this is what Giovanni da Castiglione and Gorey Community School are aiming for.
