Project Summary

Summarizing our project EVE 2.0 (Unity in the Diversity of Europe 2.0) we would like to quote Ursula von der Leyen, who wrote in her agenda for Europe 2019-2014 the following:
“For the generation of my children, Europe is a unique aspiration.
It is an aspiration of living in a natural and healthy continent. Of living in a society where you can be who you are, live where you like, love who you want and aim as high as you want. It is an aspiration of a world full of new technologies and age – old values. Of a Europe that takes the global lead on the major challenges of our times.” (1)

Oriented towards that, 18 students per two classes, half of them from a high school in the middle of Hamburg, Germany and the other half from a college in Reykjavik, Iceland will meet in the course of our follow-up project. All together, they will work on an interdisciplinary project, which is made up of the subjects geography, biology, economy – society – politics and English to focus on our three core themes. By doing that the students will be enabled with the skills that we need to bring our core themes “Environment and Climate Change”, “Rural Development and Urbanization” and “Active EU-Citizenship, European Consciousness and Democracy” to life. They will be our framework of action for the acquisition of experts and their knowledge, excursions, discussions and shared experiences. All the activities will be planned and configured by the German and Icelandic students and accompanied and supported by their teams of teachers. Through different experiences, the students’ way of seeing and thinking will be broadened to understand where we as Europeans originated, who we are right now and which direction our common development could take.
Aside the enlargement of professional competences all students get the chance to meet young people of the same age of another European country in person.
In preparation for and for the follow-up of the project parts “Unity in Diversity of Europe 2.0” all students and teachers stay in touch via eTwinning. The joint use of English is promoted intrinsically as language of the project.
All in all, our entire project “Unity in Diversity of Europe” is a part of the EU-Strategy to promote the mentioned key competences as well as understanding and open-mindedness towards new aspects. The students experience a change of perspective. The awareness of how humans are influenced by their living environment is going to have a lasting impression on all students.
