Project Summary
“Take 2… Collabor-ACTION!” (“T2C”, hereafter) is the sequel of our eTwinning project “Take 1… Collabor-ACTION!”. It is a cinema-based project created by four partner countries: Spain, Latvia, Italy and Poland. Despite being so far away in physical distance, we have spotted we are really close to each other in relation to a series of common needs we all share. Many of our children suffer from mild and severe learning difficulties, behaviour and attention disorders, and complications in language development and literacy skills. In some cases, this fact stems from our children’s social background, as many of them live in dysfunctional families. All these characteristics make our students children with less opportunities, putting many of them at risk of social exclusion. Hence, with “T2C” and our cinema-based methodology, we want to help our children overcome the obstacles that may lead to their social inclusion and turn them into democratic citizens of the European Union.
Why use cinema as an anchor?
We have observed children with this problematic frequently show themselves shyer and less confident, affecting this directly in their learning process. Through the years we have noticed that these pupils have found shelter in cinema-based activities, as they are carried out in an anxiety-free environment. Also, they find it highly motivating. These activities have let our children boost their confidence and thus propelled their learning process.
How will it be done?
Despite the final product of “T2C” being the creation of a collaborative film by the 4 partners, working within a cinema-based approach does not only entail making a film. “T2C” plans a series of activities, workshops, online meetings and mobility activities abroad to be carried out within a competence-oriented approach. This will make our educative community develop “Key Competences for Lifelong Learning” proposed by the Council of the EU, such as literacy, multilingualism, digital and technology-based competences, interpersonal skills, entrepreneurship, and cultural awareness and expression.
Within a cinema-based approach, our children will learn aspects related to:
-History of Cinema, influential people, and important discoveries and inventions that led to the creation of this Art.
-Main film genres and their main features, such as camera angles, make-up, expressing their feelings and performing arts.
-How to write a film script.
-Filming and editing videos to create a film.
As we said, all these contents will be carried out within a competence-oriented approach, but how?
They will develop literacy skills by reading and writing film scripts, describing scenarios and characters, and telling stories orally and written. As the common language for the partners is English, our students will need to do some tasks of “T2C” in English, and of course, communication among themselves will be in this language. Moreover, they will work in national and transnational teams on eTwinning, which will develop interpersonal skills such as teamwork, caring for each other, leadership and democratic values, among others. Also, this will make our pupils be aware of European Union cultures, fostering this way their sense of European citizenship. In order to work in teams, many of our children will be in charge of updating the TwinSpace of the project and they will use this network to communicate among themselves, which will contribute to develop their digital competence. Also regarding this competence, creating a film also entails learning how to use image and video editing software. They will also create online questionnaires to vote for important decisions in the course of our project. We want our students to promote their entrepreneurship and take their own decisions for the creation of our final product: a collaborative film.
For us, for others, for the future.
We expect “T2C” to have a tremendous long-term impact on our whole educative community. Some of our children who are not progressing well at school might find in cinema the motivation to finish their compulsory studies and, why not, do a Vocational Training Course related to the world of audiovisuals or arts in the future. Also, we believe that the project will support teachers’ motivation for their long-term work and professional development beyond regular education even after the end of the project.
Nevertheless, “T2C” aims to influence other educative communities too. Thus, many outputs from project activities are designed to be used not only by ourselves during the project, but also reused afterwards by other schools, as they will be stored on the project website. Throughout the project, we will host Open Doors days with town officials and other schools’ teachers and pupils. Our intention is not only to show and promote our project, but try to persuade more organisations into the world of Erasmus+ and its benefits, ensuring this way long-lasting effects for “Take 2… Collabor-ACTION!”.
