Project Summary
The main objective of the project is to improve students´ oral communication level in English language and other foreign languages and to raise motivation among 120 students aged 15-17 from 6 partner schools during 24 months of project’s duration through developing a taste and an appreciation for cultural heritage in the local area. The project aims at:
-improving linguistic competence in the area of oral communication skills
– fostering the development of intercultural communicative competence
-enriching teaching methods by implementation of digital tools
-developing students’ digital skills
-increasing the level of knowledge on local cultural heritage
-development of social and intercultural competences
To meet the objectives of the project we planned 7 LTT activities, local mini projects and campaigns, and a eTwinning project “Welcome Europe” that will be realised during 24 months of projects’ duration. All activities have been planned so that the direct and indirect participants of the project, during each local and language learning event activity will deepen key skills, in particular the ability to communicate in a foreign language, use of TIC, and acquire knowledge about European cultural heritage. In the foreign language classes students will be working with digital materials about European cultural heritage available on Europeana platform which will be used to boost and develop students’ linguistic competences focusing on oral communication skills. The students will discover cultural heritage not only in form of tangible materials such as buildings, monuments, clothing, artefacts, historical and archaeological sites in the area; but also intangible ones those very well- known and those already forgotten or entirely unknown such as customs, expressions, knowledge, abilities and oral traditions and by creating various products such as interactive map, virtual tour or digital comic they will protect them and save from oblivion. They will get to know the idea of digital storytelling and go through various phases of preparing a digital story starting with pre-production phase including setting and characters, writing the script and a storyboard, following to the production phase that brings the story to live by using various techniques and finishing with the post production phase that compromises completing film stories with sounds effects, voice and music. The active involvement of the young people in lessons and workshops, creating various interactive presentations will enrich the learning methods and increase their interest and motivation to learn. Discovering the significance of European cultural heritage will contribute not only to raising awareness of common history and values, and to strengthening the sense of belonging to the European community and social integration, but also will help to develop the initiative and increase self -esteem. The application of a holistic approach to learning languages based on diversity, learning and applying innovative teaching methods by and including teaching digital skills in curricula will be the key to counteract the lack of eagerness for learning and improving students’ achievements.
