Project Summary

Migrants’ U R Hope : this title has been chosen for its double meaning : Europe, a land of hope for migrants but also Europe, a people composed of migrants …

The last crises have highlighted the problems generated by these migrations and it seemed important to us to make the future European citizens, our students, think about this issue. We want to make them realize that even if human migration could have been a source of conflict at the beginning, it has eventually enriched peoples and enabled humanity to grow by sharing.

When we chose European partners, we wanted to explore countries that also had migration problems. On the other hand, the French agency encourages schools that have already had experience in Erasmus projects to support new schools from the same country to participate in this European program. Therefore, we have looked for, and found, a school which is far enough from our region so that their perception of migration is different from ours.

The project is structured around four periods, each of them will provide an element that will be presented during the final show.

The first period should allow us to explore our origins: where does my family, my schoolmates come from? Students will tell this in the form of a slideshow and / or video. During the first meeting, students from the four delegations will collect and select the most relevant documents to create a production that will be shown during the final meeting.

The second period will be devoted to the legacy of migration: cooking recipes, folk songs, music, sports, etc. For this stage, each national team will list these riches from abroad. The pooling during the second meeting should allow students to write the questions that will be used in the Quiz staged in the manner of “Burger Quiz” during the final show.

The third period will deal with the reception given to migrant populations, how they have adapted / integrated. Thanks to the testimonies of relatives and / or migrants, the students will list the different situations experienced today and in the past. During the meeting on this theme, the students will have to perform a choreography in which the body language will reflect the feelings of the migrants and of the welcoming population. The soundtrack will be produced with words / expressions said in a wide range of foreign languages: the students will have to record these sound samples during interviews they will make during their research work.

The last period will be mainly devoted to the preparation of the final show: rehearsals of the choreography, writing of a song summarising the project (each partner will be in charge of writing a stanza), writing of the script of the show, setting of the Quiz scene, creation of posters,…

We hope that the awareness of the problems brought about by migration will allow us to organise in our respective schools actions such as a “migration week” for example. This week could be an opportunity for students to present and highlight a part of the legacy of their families’ migration or to highlight cultural contributions from elsewhere that we enjoy today. We could ask the school cafeterias to offer menus of foreign origins for this week.

The long-term goal is, of course, the acceptance of the others while respecting their origins and their history in a spirit of brotherhood.
