Project Summary

The project we aim to accomplish is to set up an initiative with youngsters lived in a difficult situation.

The project’s main goal is to support the youngsters to reconnect to a regular daytime perspective (school, work) and a longterm development perspective (repositioning in their own context, independant living and avoid reinstatement in the community institution). Working on this form of reintegration is possible by creating a specific and safe learning environment in which the youngsters can work on their social skills. Starting out of their own competences and personal strenghts and through cumulation of succes experiences, we grow a platform on which they can slowly bend their negative self image and grow or rediscover confidence in themselves.

In order to reach these objectives the youngsters (12 in total, Belgian and Dutch ) will organise a creative initiative, which they will carry out from ‘zero to hero’. Meaning: they will train unknown skills which they will perform in the end as ‘masters’ for an audience.

‘Theatre’ will be the main theme, since it offers a specific learning environment, an alternative daytime shedule and a wide variety of skills to master so personal strenghts and competences can be matched. Furthermore: organising a ‘theatre play’ is inviting to a whole network, whether they are the audience (reckognition, …), supporters (making a snack, sewing a robe, …) or both. The whole process (1 year in total) will grow from the basic ideas, over discovering your personal skills and supporters, to creating a show as a group, to be shown to different audiences.

Core methods are: experiential learning – peer to peer education – motivational learning – unconditional guidance – and the use of multimedia techniques as a means of (self)evaluation, stimulation and getting recognition/appreciation.
