Project Summary
Currently, a lot of attention is devoted to issues connected with sorting waste, recycling, environmental protection. In our project, we want to draw the attention of young people to the importance of caring for the environment, and in particular for resources of drinking water. For this reason, we have set the following goals:
raising students’ ecological awareness related primarily to the care of drinking water resources.
increasing students’ awareness of environmental problems, the impact of human activities on the hydrogeological environment in local and European terms.
getting acquainted with various issues related to water and its protection.
developing habits leading to reduction of drinking water consumption.
strengthening the development of key competences.
developing students’ and teachers’ language competences of.
strengthening cooperation, exchanging good practices and building networks between the schools involved in the project.
The participants of the project are secondary school students aged 14-18 from Italy, France, Poland and the Netherlands as well as science and foreign languages teachers. In order to implement our aims, a project will be created on the eTwinning platform entitled “Sans eau dans l’eau”. By using tools available on the platform, a survey on water will be created for both the project participants and the local community.
Throughout the project, the students under the guidance of teachers will collect and prepare the following news on drinking water in various forms (e.g. presentation, poster, brochure):
Water as a common good. Developing a definition and deepening the topic.
Historical aspects of water use: during Arab domination, Normans, Slavs etc.
Water in the 21st century. Getting to know the current situation:
marine protection: protected zones and prevention of beach erosion,
river network: geological analysis and its link to water supply,
sensitive hydrogeological environment: landslides and rock bursts caused by human activities.
Water distribution analysis. Causes of uneven distribution of water resources
This information will be obtained during lessons related to environmental protection and water, and independently, using available sources such as the Internet or paper publications. In groups students will process the acquired information and present the effects of their work on the eTwinning platform and during international meetings.
The expected results include, first and foremost, increasing the ecological awareness of students and teachers, understanding the importance of individual attitudes and their actions for the environment, conscious use of drinking water resources and developing habits leading to water saving and respecting nature, knowledge about the impact of local activities on the environment of all of Europe.
Other results include developing key competences by all project participants, getting to know good practices connected to teaching Science applied in all schools participating in the project with particular attention to issues related to environmental protection. Another effects will involve exchanging experience in teaching foreign languages and the use of foreign languages in teaching other subjects as well as more tangible outcome in the form of a survey, its analysis and results, a video from the project, lesson plans and other materials created during the project.
As a result of the project activities both students and teachers will develop language competences, environmental awareness related primarily to care for drinking water resources and key competences. Thanks to interacting with project participants from different countries and cultures students and teachers will be more open to different and diverse communities. The participants will broaden their horizons and see that they are not only members of the local community, but are part of Europe and their activities have an impact on the environment not only in the immediate vicinity.
Participation in the project will lead to improving teachers’ competences, this applies to both the development of professional and language competences as well as organizational skills. Gained experience and information about the work, organization of work in science and foreign language lessons and curricula, will allow the implementation of good practices observed in everyday activities in home schools, which in the long run will lead to an improvement in the level and quality of education.
