Project Summary

The project put in synergy different youth work experiences & community approaches related child protection & development from different organizations in India, Kenya, Senegal, Italy, Spain, Greece & Peru. The project promoted a transnational capacity building program engaging youth workers & young leaders working for & with vulnerable children & young people. It focuses on how non-formal education and a child rights-based approach can be used to protect & promote children rights in different community-based contexts. By creating a consortium of complementary experiences, the project encouraged mutual learning, exchange of good practices & cooperation between different organizations & youth workers in the area of child protection & development, with a view to improving participants’ level of competences & fostering their active participation in global & local societies.

TARGET GROUPS
– Youth workers & young leaders who work with vulnerable young people & children in community-based activities.
– A wider audience of youth workers and young people that will be reached through the OERs.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
To promote the role of youth workers & leaders as community ambassadors able to communicate with their peers & increase their leadership & active participation in the sustainable development of their local communities.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
To engage youth workers to protect & support the well-being of children & young people, with a view to make sure that children’s rights are respected, protected & fulfilled.

EXPECTED RESULTS
– Launched, tested & developed a capacity building program on “child protection & development”, targeting youth workers & young leaders from EU, African, Asian & South American countries.
– Increased socio-professional development of youth workers & young leaders that are equipped with knowledge, key competences & employable tools in the field of youth work, children rights and non-formal education.
– Developed an intercultural understanding of community experiences, educational approaches & development challenges in the field of child protection & development from different regions of the World.
– Increased transnational cooperation, exchange of good practices & capacity building between youth workers, organizations & NGOs active in the youth field from different World context.

THE CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM ON CHILD PROTECTION & DEVELOPMENT
The international capacity building program included:
– TC in Italy: A Child Rights based approach for Community Development
– TC in Senegal: A Child Rights based Approach: Turning Principles into Practice
– TC in India: Child Poverty & Vulnerability
– TC in Kenya: The Role of Education in Child Protection & Development
– Job shadowing activities in in Italy, Kenya, Peru, India, Greece & Spain
– Final seminar in Greece

Through a non-formal, intercultural & child rights-based approach, the TCs engaged participants in peer & cooperative learning, analysis of community experiences & case studies, field visits, dialogue & intercultural exchange. Job shadowing activities were implemented in all participating countries & offered an opportunity for youth workers to gain a cultural & practical learning experience into the daily activities & local community projects of the hosting organization. A final seminar was implemented in Greece aiming to share final results & outputs, lessons learned & reflections on follow-up.

OUTPUTS / OERs
An e-learning platform was developed & complemented by an e-learning course covering 6 thematic, non-formal & self-paced e-learning modules targeting a wider international audience. A pilot of the e-learning course was launched on January 2018 & involved 42 youth workers from all participating countries.
