Project Summary
Our project has relied on the solid foundations provided by the three participating establishments, which have very different backgrounds and natures but share a common interest in languages, a desire to improve their methodological resources and teaching practice. Pedagogical innovation is inscribed in the DNA of the Lycée International, the coordinating school which has set the theoretical tone of the project. The extensive experience in Eramus and Comenius projects gained by IES Lucia de Medrano has been decisive in the logistical organisation and in the proper planning of all activities with pupils. The Liceo Margherita de Castelvì, also a centre of excellence in languages, has provided a broader cultural approach, based on the territory, traditions and popular culture.
The long term planning, initially 36 months and finally 40 months for the Lycée International with the extension granted by the Erasmus+ France Agency, has proved to be appropriate and has allowed an enriching evolution of working methods, communication tools and final contributions. Our trajectory was already very well defined at the time when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, so its impact was limited in relation to the final achievements and lasting contributions of the project, although we regret the cancellation of the last mobility scheduled in Saint-Germain-en-Laye for March/April 2020.
Our initial objectives, as will be seen more extensively in later sections, have been maintained in the actual development of the project.
Internally, we are very satisfied with the improvement in teaching methodology and practice that can be derived from this project. The involvement of the teaching staff has exceeded our initial forecasts and the conclusions reached have an important theoretical and methodological weight. It is difficult to summarise them, but we can say that from now on we have the resources to go beyond the learning of several languages and to deepen the training of intercultural agents, multicompetent and aware of the value of the richness that diversity brings.
From the beginning, we have considered the direct involvement of our pupils as a key element and we have achieved an enormous response, with a direct participation of more than 1700 pupils from the three schools. In each school year, each school has organised workshops and working groups (literary creation, reading club, web radio, video…) which have developed their work in small groups over several months. At the international meetings, the representatives of each establishment presented the results achieved, which was very satisfactory, enriching and motivating for everyone. Discussions, proposals and suggestions from the pupils were taken into account (for example, they gave the name “SLinguix”, with “S” for Sassari, Salamanca and Saint-Germain-en-Laye and “linguix” as a derivative of the Latin languages, with an “x” alluding to the open source Linux code. The exchanges and the cultural and convivial activities that have accompanied them have marked us on a personal and indelible level with very positive experiences of openness and tolerance.
In addition, we have managed to generate original and innovative digital multimedia resources, distributed under a Creative Commons licence and created with free and open source tools. It was our great challenge and we are frankly satisfied with “SLinguix”, developed with eXelearning. We are also proud of “Linguix Erasmus+”, a trilingual Linux operating system for teaching in French, Spanish and Italian, which will be operational and kept up to date until 2024. With these resources, we have edited 600 USB keys that have been distributed to educational centres in Europe (mainly in France, Spain and Italy) and Latin America.
Dissemination has been an important part of our work, with a well-established plan that has allowed us to communicate our actions to the entire educational community of our schools (we estimate that more than 18,000 people have been informed). We have also had a significant impact in the written press and on social networks (Twitter), which has reached more than 200,000 people.
As the project has progressed, we have gained confidence and improved in some aspects. Although we did not initially plan to participate in the “Erasmus Days” events, we have finally actively participated in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions, which has been positive and enriching. We have also managed to present our project to the Sedec commission of the Regionen Committee in Brussels, reaffirming the dimension and commitment to European values of our project.
The dissemination of its results through the “Erasmus+ Project Result Platform” will hopefully help and encourage other future actions. We are also already developing and planning new actions.
