Project Summary
The initial question for a new project was how to strongly contribute to develop sustainable partnerships on climate communications for a new “climate culture”, thus contributing to a more climate resilient Europe in a South-North dialogue.
Prior to the start of the project, Paris Agreement and SDG agenda have been adopted, and also the Rio+20 summit was still part of the global agenda.
All of the above and also the latest IPCC report clearly indicated the dramatic need for on remaining within the planetary boundaries as an overarching level of the SDG agenda. And with our partners from the South being an instance to claim on us in the European Union to being a crucial player and driver.
C4CC took up this mission and explicitly reflected and discussed these implications for the European and global youth and their future.
C4CC developed and realized a three-step e-learning and encounter-based capacity building and mobility activities for youth workers and young multipliers focusing transmedia storytelling. The encounters took place in very rural Germany and urban space of Santiago de Chile – a great atmosphere for the participants to live the project’s topics on one hand in a most remote place in rural Germany with barely no internet and an urban metropolis such as Santiago as contrasting sphere and lifeworld.
The capacity building and its respective workshops, as well as the parallel strand of the mobility actions, and the surrounding activities were embedded in the production of a set of communication products made by the participants, professionally supported by the project partners and external experts.
A transmedia map has been created on www.c4cc.kmgne.de and all competences, motivational aspects and visions for possible futures have been passed on in national workshops and webinars on EU level, whilst strong virtual dissemination has been immanent to the project’s activities.
The emotional level of the project contributed immensely to its positive outcomes. The self-directed and self-oriented learning experience in the intercultural setting caused intense friendship and unity in the common cause, thus fostering a high potential for long lasting impacts.
As regards of outcomes, the project certainly fostered the foreseen cooperation between EU countries and the global South on a very specific and indeed global issue.
It motivated active youth participation and dialogue joint and EU responsibilities and the need for a stronger cooperation and equity between South and North.
It clearly translated these issues to the youth cultures and youths’ communication channels to motivate active youth participation and dialogue on EU policy and policy-making in a topic-specific way, with an immanent look at the global South, thus stimulating citizenship, social engagement and future well-being for all.
The transmedia platform and its map will remain open for editing and therefore keep being a dynamic public space for further youths and youth workers, as well as multipliers to spread their messages and to acquire competences on climate communication and citizenship on the SDG agenda.
