Project Summary

he shared history between Poland and the French department of the Deux-Sèvres during World War II led to several twinning programs between different towns. Current partnerships between the adult population are already in place (associations, inhabitants, elected representatives). Taking into account the close ties between the inhabitants and following the stay of a Polish assistant in a French secondary school, the headmasters of the different schools wish to see their pupils taking part in a shared educative project resulting in a binational exchange. Similarities in the social context and in the territory make the connections easier. The four schools associated to the project chose the environmental preservation as a shared issue to be one of the pillar of the building of the citizenship. The wish of every participating member to contribute to the elaboration of this shared project will serve the interests of the local population. To build their citizenship pupils will have to develop their power to act, to learn precise skills such as being able to analyse local issues, to compare different approaches, to design new tools, to search for partnership and to realise them, to communicate throughout different means (such as documentaries, pictures, exhibitions, e-books) and to enhance the proper habits regarding the respect of biodiversity. The innovation of this project consist in linking the power of acting together with the local members (local schools and inhabitants) but also with the foreign population (the Polish schools and Polish inhabitants) being based on the multiculturalism and on the practice of a foreign language in a real situation of communication. The goal is for the pupils to become intermediaries with their fellow pupils and the population on their own territories while developing their sense of belonging to Europe as well as their entrepreneurial spirit. They will be the ambassadors of a reflection and of its implementation. From Poland and France, it’s a total of 48 ambassadors-pupils aged from 13 to 15 (secondary schools) coming from disadvantaged background and living in a rural environment who will travel and 150 pupils who will be directly involved in the project. Therefore, pupils of a same age group will support the dynamism of the project and will be committed to vehicle the development of the proper habits regarding the respect of the environment on its local territory. It’s at school and with their teachers and specialists that pupils will study the different approaches to preservebiodiversity, will identify the protected species in their environment (the fauna and the flora) and will compare the practice of each country. Transnationals meetings will be organised so the pupils will be able to define a shared strategy to set-up an awareness campaign intended to allow their fellow pupils and the population to become responsible citizens toward their environment. Bringing the young generation in this project will allow them to become responsible with a citizen consciousness giving them the power to act. English will be the main language to communicate as well as many digital tools. The core of this project is the implementation of an active approach for the protection of biodiversity as well as the awareness of the environmental issues.Pupils will be able to :- get to know and understand the natural environment and its diversity,- select the most endangered species on a local scale,- understand what is at stake in the necessity to protect these species,- understand the universality of this issue (shared values),- compare the practice of another country,- be involved in a strategy of awareness campaign,- work with different partners,- act,- design different communication tools- share, spread and perpetuate shared values. The main impacts and the expected results consist in the involvement of the pupils in their local life, strengthening the role schools can have on a local level with an approach that could be extended to a larger scale (from local to global) and taking into consideration young people from 12 to 15 in an innovating approach at the European level. The pupils’ productions (documentaries, information signs placed permanently in public spaces, eco-friendly demonstrations, documents) and the associated approaches (meetings with the local representatives, inhabitants, association leaders) will be a means to involve every member of each territory in the different actions led to preserve their environment and in the same time consolidating the fraternal relationship between the countries taking part in the project as well as the towns.
