Project Summary

Tolerance and intercultural education are the major goals of our educational work at our school. Due to the cultural diversity and the resulting differences, we want to educate our students to be understanding and tolerant young people. The insight into another country with the background of school and vocational education should equip our pupils with competences which they need for their further personal and professional development.
The communication language English strengthens the language skills of the students , but also their self-esteem. The self-confidence acquired should be transferred to everyday life and have a positive influence on the students.
With this project we also want to install a culture of appreciation for the cultural diversity in Europe at our school. Initially, however, this only happens in relation to the relationship between Singen and Pomezia.
The participating students will be taught in grade 7 at the beginning of the project. The age structure is between 13-15 years. The students bring intercultural knowledge to the classroom, since most of them have a migration background. They come mainly from poorly educated and socially disadvantaged families.
We will carry out the project in two classes and involve around 18 students . The selection of the acting pupils will be based on their expression of interest. Interested students should also have good English skills and good social behavior. In the event that we have more interested parties than opportunities to participate, we will let the lottery be decided.

We have planned the following activities for the project:
Short-term training for all teachers involved at the beginning of the project on the legal questions “Living and working in the EU”;
– Visit to the European Parliament with talks with German and Italian MEPs
– Joint planning and arrangement of the project
– preparation of mutual visits
Visit of the German students in Pomezia:
In Italy we would like to get to know the school and the pupils through internships. The student groups will learn about the training modalities of craft trades on site. In addition, we would like to learn the historical background of the town twinning and visit the military cemetery of the city of Pomezia together.
Visit of the Italian students in Singen:
– The school and the city of Singen are first introduced on site.
– Visit to the Chamber of Crafts in Konstanz; joint development of comparability and the requirements of different training occupations in a country comparison
– Joint visit of the EU Parliament in Brussels and the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp memorial
Short-term training of the teachers at the school in Pomezia on the topic of “layout and design programs”.
The methodical implementation takes place in the context of regular teaching; this means that we work with the students in class on the tasks we set. We will use methods such as group work, partner work, group puzzle and placemat. In the course of the project, it can of course happen that we will include other methods that are suitable for us.
We will also conduct interviews and design an exhibition.
We try to achieve sustainability by considering an exhibition in the town hall. However, this will only be of a temporary nature. However, we plan to place it as a permanent exhibition in the school building, shoot a video film together and create a common folder with working materials. In addition, all working materials and work results will be made available to upcoming classes and other schools in Singen / Pomezia in the form of a folder.
The most sustainable goal of this project will be the continuation of the school partnership, which will be continued through further visits and future joint projects.
