Project Summary

“Lead the way” is a 2 year project aiming at increasing the quality of the non-formal educational method and programmes for young people aged 16 -22 by fostering Girl Guide/Scout organisations’ knowledge and capacity to implement them. The specific objectives of the project are to:• develop leaders’ knowledge about and ability to apply the Girl Guide/Scout method with young people aged 16-22 in diverse settings• capitalise on participants’ experience and learning by developing a tool on the NFE method specific for the targeted age group• strengthen the understanding of the NFE method and its implementation through NFE programmes for the targeted age group across Member Organisations• promote the sharing of good practices between the European and other Regions of WAGGGS and cooperation to achieve common learning• Establish a network that goes beyond Europe based on a shared interested on NFE methods that will continue to work after the project. The project involves 13 partner organisations from across Europe and 3 partners from Rwanda, Chile and Taiwan that will pilot the development of the educational programme and tool in their regions (Africa, Western Hemisphere and Asia-Pacific).Guided by a Planning Team of 5 volunteers and staff, the 45 participants from all partners will first share their experience and reflections, take part in long distance training and work and then meet for a face to face training on the theme of the project. They will develop 20 NFE activities for young people aged 16-22 that will be tested at Roverway 2018 with more than 1600 young people. The learning from the test will feed into further analysis and sharing to develop as a result an educational programme and a tool that will support organisations to implement the programme. The tool will be widely disseminated via on line channels, including webinars, and face-to-face meetings after the end of the project to ensure sustainability. As a result of this project we expect to:• have created a group of leaders that know, can use and adapt the Girl Guide/Scout method for young people aged 16-22 to diverse settings across Europe and worldwide. They will reach a level of expertise on the method and on training techniques that will enable WAGGGS to further support our MOs delivering tailored support and trainings on this topic.• have developed a programme on the theme of the project and a tool to support the partners and multiplies learning across MOs worldwide for quality NFE programmes for the target age group• have strengthened the understanding of the method and built capacity of the MOs to develop and implement quality NFE programmes for the target age group• have built strong links between the partner organisations in Europe, Asia Pacific, in the African and Western Hemisphere of WAGGGS for the continued exchange of good practices.
