Project Summary

Water is a common element shared by us all. Vital for life, it has shaped all of our cultures, from the very location of our communities to our beliefs and shared desire to protect our environment.
The Project, Drop of Water-Reflection of Cultures, began as a bi-lateral one-week workshop between Polish and Lithuanian partners in 2017, that so inspired our pupils that they demanded to continue the work they had begun and extend it to a wider audience. Their wish is to explore how water shapes our society and how our interaction with it affects the local and global heritage and environment.
The main objectives are:
• develop and promote school education strategies related to water issues
• increase awareness of the common heritage of water and its importance to all areas of human activity
• use of ICT and multi-media skills to share knowledge and strengthen out of school learning experiences
• improve communication skills in English/Spanish
The Project will strengthen the motivation and interest of students for learning through the use of different disciplines, including art, music, history, science, literacy, sport, ICT and technology, which help to involve pupils of various talents and interests.
We will work in 6 modules:
• Water and You
• Water and Culture
• Water for Sport and Health
• Water and Science
• Water and Environment
• Water and Future
Water is everywhere in our lives and it is a fascinating and broad topic. “Drop of water – reflection of cultures “is a project of 6 European schools interested in water education, sharing the cultural heritage of water from their countries and learning about the others. The cultural heritage of water, relates not only to the technology and architecture that humankind has developed to manage and utilise water but also to those intangible values that have shaped our beliefs, culture and actions, including ecology.
Each partner will focus their studies on these topics and will prepare work on a specific module to present at each student exchange meeting. As well as sharing their research, each meeting will be an opportunity for the host partner to celebrate their own cultural heritage and the role of water, through workshops and visits. The emphasis will be on “learning by doing”, experiential learning and a holistic multidisciplinary approach. The project will help pupils to understand the value of water, through artistic expression, conversation, through experience in the school, at home but also in European dimension, all the while making learning fun. Project dissemination will be through a blog of the project and eTwinning as a safe platform to share our activities, findings, results and e-published materials. March 22 is World Water Day and will become a day to celebrate and share our work as we focus on the importance of water at our schools. We would like each school to develop its media skills through the production of a 10 minute documentary film about an aspect of water that is particularly important to them within the project. These short films will then be edited into a longer documentary to be shown on World water day 2020 and released to the public through interest generated in our respective local media.
As the overall outcome of the project we expect improved interdisciplinary teaching strategies including CLIL and improved ICT skills and communication in English/Spanish, both for students and teachers. But most importantly, all participants will be aware that water is a common heritage, which knows no frontiers and the value of which must be recognised by all. Everyone has the duty to use water carefully.
