Project Summary

The project has been designed to promote international mobility and foreign language learning, without forgetting to put young people in a situation where they can work on their personal projects. The personal project is about giving the young person a voice once and just helping them to realise their “dream”.
It is in this spirit that the project was carried out from start to finish. Thus, 15 young people made up this first promotion. They represent 3 different countries (cultures). In terms of the project’s objectives, the training-mobility themes proposed are in themselves an added value, as they respond directly to the personalised needs of the learner, all by enabling him or her to open up to other learners. This mobility has enabled openness to different cultures and facilitated multilingual communication within the framework of mixed physical and virtual group activities for learners from 3 countries. Lunch was taken together to encourage human relations between participants. Beyond the objectives set by the initiating team, the additional benefits of this project can be seen in the exchanges between learners who crossed their observations. There was also a strong desire to develop European exchanges between learners and supervisors within the partner associations. Finally, at the level of the three partners, we have noticed a strong cohesion and a desire to change practices and to disseminate learning because these three structures already work in the spirit of the project before its conception.
For the Maison d’Afrique, in addition to the language courses approved by the Ministry of National Education, it is a reception centre to help young migrants integrate into the host society by helping them develop and strengthen their capacities to become useful and autonomous people.
ABconsulting is a refuge, a favourable and ideal setting where a team of trained and experienced people listen to the concerns of young people with a migrant background and accompany them in the search for solutions.
The Euro-African centre trains young people who most often have a chaotic migratory journey to become “good” European citizens through a spirit of “giving and receiving”.
In our three structures there is no question of doing instead, but of allowing the “genius” of these people to blossom.
During our project, we have noticed a new dynamic, a willingness to share, particularly through the days of training and cultural exchange between young people from France, Spain and Luxembourg. The cross-fertilisation of the views of the supervisors involved in the mobilities created a new confidence in our capacity to innovate and experiment. The observation of our learners greatly helped in the final management of the project. During these two years of the project, the 3 partners were motivated by the desire to develop new European projects together.

Initially 15 mobility learners were envisaged, 5 of which were envisaged by each partner and in the end 36 were able to see the light of day. The young people also had the opportunity to be trained in project management and planning from start to finish. They were coached by the supervisors in writing their own individual project. The young people had the opportunity to live an original and mobilising interactive group experience and to meet new people. The young people also met project management professionals from Initiatives et Cités, Euratechnologies, the Hauts de France Region, the micro credit institution (MICROLUX) at the Luxembourg Microfinance House. The young people were also able to take advantage of the specialities of the 3 countries by visiting the cities of Lille, Luxembourg and Barcelona.
We keep in touch with the young people and a follow-up will be done after one year to measure the impact if the situation of COVID-19 allows us to do so.
The project has been innovative by the creation of a specific project website http://skillbetogether.eu ; available free of charge to encourage the sharing of experiences. Training materials are available on TRELLO.
The creation of Whatsapps groups enabled young people to communicate with each other.
In terms of learning, education has been non-formal, we have “giving young people a voice” in order to bring out each person’s life project and talent; which is not always the case in society, hence the spirit of revolt among some young people.
For the selection of the young people, each partner organised an information meeting:
– In Lille, this was in the form of a Spanish hostel at an associative partner ;
– In Barcelona, it was a meeting in a local bistro;
– In Luxembourg, it was an information and stand at the 35th festival of migration and cultures at Lux expo.
There was no shortage of difficulties, but we knew how to overcome them.
