Project Summary

In summary. This project is between St. Christopher’s School in Wrexham, North Wales, and Liceul Teoretic,,Ion Ghica”-Racari in Racari, Romania. The project’s name is ‘Being Global Citizens’ and through being global citizens all participants in this project will benefit immensely, developing a variety of skills such as numeracy, literacy and digital competency; barriers will be broken down and knowledge and understanding of SENs and ALNs will be developed, through the exchange of culture and tradition it will increase participation and promote inclusion, it will increase their confidence, self-esteem, pupil voice, attendance and develop them as inform global citizens. The participants involved will be part of an exchange which is a once in a lifetime opportunity. They will get to discover what it is like for a person who lives in another country, compare and contrast school life, traditional foods; stories and so much more! This project will develop disadvantaged students’ confidence and self-esteem to participate in activities that they would not normally do. It will give them purpose and belonging. Parents and outside agencies will also be part of this project for it promotes collaborative and holistic approaches to teaching and learning. This project hits so many targets; school development targets, Local educational authority targets, Welsh Assembly targets, and EU targets. The project is in everyone whom is involves; best interest. It will give students the opportunity to critically think, question, be inquisitive and develop the 5 habits of mind. This project will develop disadvantaged students’ confidence and self-esteem to participate in activities that they would not normally do. It will give them purpose and belonging.
The project has longevity and will continue for many years after Erasmus funding has ended.
This project has been a very positive experience for all involved and I would recommend other school professionals to try and be part of a Erasmus plus project.
This project met all aspirations; numeracy literacy and ICT skills were developed through carrying out a wide range of activities. Communication between the partnership schools and communication in general improved and the students who were part of the reciprocal visits communicated well despite the language barrier. It was great to see the students coming out of their shells and getting involved in all activities even those that were new to them and that they may have found quite daunting before.
Knowledge and understanding of each teacher’s educational systems developed and where SENs and ALNs fitted in. I was quite surprised to see that there was only one student in the Romanian school who had SENs. Through the whole of the project the 5 creative habits of mind were developed; Inquisitive; through the students asking lots of questions about different traditions, cultures, exploring and challenging assumptions. Cooperation; at every level of this project cooperation between the two parties was paramount and without the cooperation this project would not be as successful as it was. Persistent; we did not have a lot of issues, but because we planned activities and everything so well we were well prepared and we tolerated uncertainty. Disciplined; reflection was a very important part of this project and everyone involved have the opportunity to do so. Pupil voice was paramount and informed every part of the project. Imaginative; through forging relationships we have been able to make connections and become more informed global citizens. From carrying out this project the students that were involved have become more ambitious and capable – they have had a go at things that they would never had done before. They have become more ethical, and informed citizens who have been able to engage with contemporary issues based upon their knowledge and values, understand and consider the impact of their actions when making choices and acting. They have become more knowledgeable about their culture, community, society and the world.
Through the exchange of culture and tradition, participation has been increased and inclusion of all has been very successful. This has increase their confidence, self-esteem, pupil voice, attendance and develop them as inform global citizens.
