Project Summary

We see a huge danger in the growing of Nationalism (racism against refugees), bullying in the social networks like facebook and the splitting of the European Union (Brexit), so we wanted to work against these developments and look for things which unite us. Our aim was to build bridges; models and bridges of friendship (physical and social once) , e.g. with ICT, mobilities and experiental.
Our students learnt about each other, saw themselves as a citizen of the own country but also of Europe. Moreover they got impressions from inhabitants of each country.
We wanted to encourage innovative and didactic methods.

The European Year of Cultural Heritage was an opportunity to teach our children about the importance of cultural heritage esp. brigdes and dikes as part of the European culture. We learnt how we can use our knowledges for the future while the climat is changing.

Our students met each other, learnt about the countries, culture and schoolsystems. They developed their social and intercultural competences, used and improved their English language skills and felt the importance of the European Union.

The 10-13 year old children of our schools worked together. On project days which took place at all 3 schools at the same time we had video conferences, created a logo, discovered popular bridges, shot short movies and prepared Powerpoint presentations.
Some of the students joined the meetings of the coordinators, presented their results and experiences and discussed the next steps.

We introduced e-twinning to all partners as a project tool and created our own twinspace to communicate and exchange results (teachers and students) at the first meeting in Germany.

At the beginning and the end of the project we did a survey to messure the knowledge about our countries and the bridges and also the social and intercultural understanding.

At the end we can say, that the students expanded their knowledge about the partner countries and the bridges. So we successfully organised and leaded through the project days and mobilities. Moreover, the children wrote down their expectations of the project and their feelings about communication with people from abroad and we checked them afterwards. In this case we didn’t get a huge development. But we know that some kids got with this project the chance to go abroad.
Moreover, we knew before that social and language skills are difficult to “messure” and they are very subjective and we have just worked with the average where the very positive and bad opinions came together.

The final of the project should be a meeting of all 3 schools with 20 children of each. It should take place in Germany, where we wanted to present all results and the children should sing and play together. Unfortunately because of Covid-19 we had to cancel this meeting and one other mobility.

With the project we expected a lot of benefit for our children as the European citizens of the future and we think we reached it.

We teachers also got new experiences while working with our partners and evaluated our school curriculums and we want to work together in the future.
