Project Summary
Context and background of the project:
Citizens’ association Tradičné ľudové umelecké remeslá (Traditional arts and crafts) on the basis of its experience and long-term cooperation with houses of social services implemented the project Occupational therapist. The core topic was increase of the expertise and creativity of the occupational therapist in the houses of social services.
Houses of social services have different level as for the care of the clients, and unfortunately, creative and free time workshops are on the margin of interests. The reason is not only the lack of financial means, but also the lack of trained staff. When we were preparing the project we already had a clear idea what the occupational therapists from houses of social services need, what possibilities they have at work, what problems there are; and how the need to work creatively with the elderly and disabled people is not the priority.
In the project Occupational therapist jointly cooperated two types of partner organisations. On the one hand homes for elderly people or houses of social services, on the other hand organisations active in the field of folk traditions and crafts, i.e. activities which can bring the new wind into the activities of the houses of social services. Not only occupational therapists were learning from the craftsmen, but also craftsmen started to cooperate actively with the minority groups.
Goals of the project:
Educating of occupational therapists and international exchange of experience,
Professional training of occupational therapists in several areas and free time activities of houses of social services,
Creating the network of associated organisations and houses of social services,
Organising of cultural programmes and festivals for making the results of work of clients of houses of social services visible.
Target groups:
Occupational therapists, professional and managing staff of the houses of social services,
Members of associations and organisations focused on folk crafts /folk craftsmen, trainers/,
Clients – elderly and disabled people,
Family members of the clients,
Professional and general public.
Types of implemented project activities within 20 months of the duration of the project:
1. International meetings – implemented were four international meetings. Their aim was apart from project management and checking of fulfilment of the set tasks also getting to know the work and activities of the host organisations. 65 participants took part in the international meetings. The participants were managers of organisations, occupational therapists, craftsmen-trainers.
2. Educational training activities – performed was an educational activity with the duration of 6 days in Kovačica, Serbia. The core activities were seminars, workshops, presentation of products in the cultural event in Kovačica. In the educational – training activities participated from the organisations CSS Český Tešín, MDSS Ustroň and Éltes EGYMI professional employees of the houses of social services and managers. For the association Tradičné ľudové umelecké remeslá – members of the association. There were in total 16 participants.
3. Local activities which were provided for by each project partner:
– Looking for new associated organisations and following organising of mutual social workshops and other activities,
– Implementation of creative workshops for clients of houses of social services,
