Project Summary
We – four Roma theaters working on the fields of art and education in Budapest, Rome, Bucharest and Seville –bring in the streets of our towns theater and workshops. We will collect innovative methods such as outdoor theater, street performance, thematic city walks and storytelling and publish foundation bricks on them, which we will use in our own artistic and educational work and inspire the work of other initiatives on these fields. We will collect stories, which highlight the role of Roma communities in the past and present of our cities and the importance of inclusive, diverse, democratic societies and the danger of segregation and authoritarian regimes. Based on those stories we will create theater plays, which will be presented in outdoor performances on public spaces relevant to the given stories. We will involve 4 young Roma and non-Roma artists in each country in the planning and realization of the performances, who will receive domestic offline and international online training, too. The performances will serve as multiplier events reaching young people and experts of education and culture – altogether 400 persons. The performance will be video recorded in order to make it available for wider European audiences and next generations and also non-formal educational methods. We will involve 4 young Roma and non-Roma peer trainers in each country, who will also receive both domestic and international training and participate in the creation of the methodology and afterwards realization of the outdoor workshops, where the videos about the performances and other digital tools will be also included in the interactive sessions. These workshops will be also used as multipliers events in each partner country reaching young people and experts – all together 200 persons. All partners will summarize their educational methods together with their plays, videos about their performances and digital tools in their domestic intellectual outputs. The young artists and trainers will gain competences and experience of success regarding cooperative interethnic creative work and will increase their career perspectives and also develop their attitudes towards inclusive societies building on active participation. The young people’s attitudes towards Roma people and active citizenships will improve, and the experts will gain new methods and inspiration for their work. Our activities and results will reach 100.000 European citizens by (social) media, and will develop the attitudes towards Roma communities – the biggest and most refused ethnic minority of the EU – and develop the non-formal educational and artistic practices of different fields. By highlighting the stories of Roma persons and communities and the values of Roma drama and theater the Roma history and culture become an integral part of the European cultural heritage. We will empower Roma communities and young people by highlighting these values, too, and inspire the members of the majority to act also as tools of inclusion, when they recognize we all live common cities on a common continent, where we all have similar interests than most of all fellow citizens, whatever their background is.
