Project Summary
We have students whose ages are between 12-14 in our school and the same ages in partners ‘ schools ,too. It correspons to early adolescence age, Students face with new , challenging , social and psychological situations in this period. During this period , Children are curious about trying new things such as cigarettes , alcohol or drug . They desire to try new things or want to take greater risks to show themselves. From this point of view , we talked with our adolescence age group , our first aim was to help these students. for this reason , Our phsycholist prepared seminars to this target group , She showed them videos and gave information about drug addiction . Our students were shocked . Because for the first time they gained true and proper information about drug use. So they told us their thougts about drugs and confessed they didn’t know how dangerous drug use was.
The problem of anti-drug and addiction among young people was one of the most important points of our school work concept for years. We undertook a range of activities related to the problem. We conducted a debate with young people on drugs, there was a meeting with a former drug addict who told about the consequences of drugs in his life.
Drug addiction not only causes physical diseases but also creates behavioral ,emotional and psychological problems in addicts. Drugs make the people physically dependent. It has been researched that youth involved in chemical substance abuse are unable to take right decisions and have difficulty in dealing with obstacles of life . So we tried to find some people or real life stories about people who lived obstacles about drug and shared them with our students.
Drug addiction is a very serious problem worldwide. Risk for addiction is influenced by a combination of factors that include individual biology ,social environment ,and age or stage of development. There can be many reasons for children to use substances . They may have family problem , wrong friends and they can think it will ease their anxiety in social situations. Thus, we aplied surveys to our students to determine them.
There is a need of awareness among each individual to understand the harm caused by drug addiction.Because of these reasons we wanted to inform our students about the harmful effects of drug addiction and to wanted to develop consciousness among students. We wanted to take precautions before it was too late. Prevention programs involving families, schools, communities and the media are effective in reducing drug abuse. So we had facebook account and created a facebook page about drug abuse. so all students with partner students they shared activities , videos , real life stories , sports activities as an alternatives to addiction. we created a web page and did many activities there. we tries to use the effect of media on students and parents
Although many events and cultural factors affect drug abuse trends, when youth perceive drug abuse as harmful ,they reduce their drug taking.
Thus, education and outreach are key in helping youth and the general public understanding of the risks of drug addiction.
OUR AIM was to ,
-teaching students how to resist peer influences,
-to be able to say “NO”
-improving life skills
-creating emotional awareness
-gaining social problem solving skills
-developing consciousness about the dangers of substance use
– lifelong learning and improve education system
we aimed to succeed these goals. With our monthly activities , with theatres , with flashmob activities , with doing Eu festivals , withn cinema days We are sure , we became succesfull,
“Prevention is the best cure” is a popular saying among healthcare professionals. The main goals of our cooperation was to increase the knowledge of the importance of a healthy lifestyle of living without using drug in each partner’s country and to find out and introduce the good habits of each culture.
We are sure that – due to our cooperation – our pupils and their families took responsibility for their own choices concerning about their life. We believed, that the cooperation among different European countries would open our students’ minds to other cultures and nations. We learned more about each others’ habits and traditions. We expected that after the two years of cooperation, our students were aware of many similarities among people from different parts of Europe, and that they became respectful all the differences. We would like them to feel a part of the European community – to broaden their horizon and to get to know and accept people from other cultures. So with their comments after return from abroad , we were realy happy to hear that They aimed to learn English and wanted to choose Erasmus programs in high school and wanted to go abroad wth students change program.
