Project Summary

Nowadays, he status of the developped countries symbolizes the state of entire countries living in a way far above the resources they actually have in their soils, destroying the ressources of the planet itself.
In the case of two countries involved in our Erasmus project, Guadeloupe (French West Indies) and Italy (Occhiobello, near Venice) environmental issues go with their consequences on the global warming, including the level of the oceans (Guadeloupe as an island in the Caribbean see and the delta of the Po are potentially under the level of the seas) or the strength of natural catastrophes such as hurricanes or tsunamis.
Most of young people, when aware of this state of facts, do not know how to face it.
Through this Erasmus project, we attempted to propose solutions by finding, whatever issue was concerned, an enjoyable way to face, solve or overpass it. Most of the situations have consisted in stimulating the imagination and creativity of students, encouraging them to find innovative way of acting in the field of sustainability, increasing non-judgement and positive approaches during tutorial activities.
So each activity has been planned in two times; first, developping knowledges or skills on environmental issues such as : sustainable lifestyle, biodiversity, wastes and zero waste issues, water topics, economics and sustainable tourism. In a second time, the students had to imagine how to teach others in the related theme : project website, logo and tee-shirt of the project during our events, leaflets and workshops, guidebooks and games, multimedia presentations, questionnaires or artistic creations such as a musical involving the three partners of the project in visio, which should have been staged on the 5th of june, international day ot the Environment.
Three schools were involved; two schools in Guadeloupe, including a high school in charge of the coordination of the project, and a secondary school in its neighboorhood. The third school was located in the Emilia-Romagna state, including 32 students of various secondary schools of the city of Occhiobello.
So almost 90 students from 12 to 18 years old were involved in this project; all started between two music teachers, one in Italy, the other in Guadeloupe. After a first partnership during a KA1 project, the KA2 project followed including other teachers and other ages because one of the two music teachers became the director of a secondary school after being in a high school. It has leaded us to a particular frame: eldest students would be able to tutorize the youngest one all along the project. This matched perfectly to the aim of the project, essentially based on new way of teaching the urge of sustainability.
Unfortunately, the pandemic crisis violently stopped the work and motivation of the student, as far as Italy (and especially Emilia-Romagna) has to be the first European country concerned with the lockdown, two weeks before the Italian students were to come in Guadeloupe and one month before the mobility of the Guadeloupean secondary school.
The high school only were able to make its mobility during these two years, and tried to remain the principal actor of the project. Sadly, it was too frustrating for the youngest pupils to go on the project without any good condition (virtual sessions has been cancelled because of bad connexion between everybody) nor any perspectives.
Until February 2021, the conditions disorganized the work for our Italian colleagues, already difficult due to changes of pedagogical team each scholar year.
Anyway, in this project we are proud to have managed to achieve the following goals :
– issues related to sustainable consumption were introduced to school curricula and are still available in the schools
– proper consumption attitudes were promoted through educational activities in partner schools
– the potential of teachers has been increased: ICT skills, language and intercultural competences
– reading skills, the development of critical thinking, and consequently, proper consumer choices, including comprehension in foreign languages especially in English, language of the partnership, french and creole.
– creativity and observation skills were stimulated as well as teamwork skills, intercultural dialogue, social acceptance and tolerance.
Furthermore, we have the pleasure to initiate more easily environmental actions in our school, such as creole gardens in the school, seeds plantations, carrying of selective sorting with yellow boxes, creation of eco-délégués students in charge to disseminate various purposes among the one included in the initial project. Finally, the opportunity of creating a website in a blog manner offers us the possibility of nourishing the databases with articles on our future actions and dissemination through social networks in the field of sustainability and enjoyability.
