Project Summary

What are our reasons? The economic model of post-industrial societies, mainly based in production economy, seems to be over to give way to a new economic development. Some well-known economists have defined it as a ‘capitalism crisis’ or a ‘global crisis’, which seems to anticipate the end of a cycle regarding the way the markets work. On the other hand, a new environmental awareness has emerged foreseeing an irreversible damage of our planet. Our society is characterized by being the age of widespread knowledge, information and communication. Thus, this seems to be our primary means to improve human resources. In this sense, the European Union is aware that legislation policies are not enough if they are not supported by educational policies. Moreover, education in sustainable economy will be essential. The project was born out of our personal certainty that if we foster our environmental richness we will contribute to the improvement of our living conditions. Sustainable economy formation means a change of present and future society in:• Collective and personal needs (mainly consumer habits)• Entrepreneurship initiatives combining sustainability and profitability. Our project aims at offering this educational task within the official curriculum of our schools. What are our aims?We aim at the formation of citizens that respect the environment without refusing to social and economic growth.OBJECTIVES:I. Train present and future citizens in sustainable initiatives that will improve their job opportunities while they promote an effective development in their environments.II. Foster transnational projects that are richer learning settings in which students meet other languages, cultures and customs. Projects that combine physical mobility with the possibilities offered by modern ICT.III. Update and improve present educational systems by offering a curriculum that responds to the educational needs of our students. Thus, we aim at the improvement of digital, communicative, professional, environmental, entrepreneur and collaborative initiatives. How can we contribute to create this new reality?STRATEGYThis is an international collaborative project that lasts two years (2016-18) and is divided into two phases:1st PHASE (2016-17): The participating schools of different countries collaborate in elaborating an optional subject to educate in sustainable economy. The proposal can include different aspects such as:• Biosphere reserves and biodiversity• Improving personal habits as well as governmental habits to promote the conservation of natural places• Successful economic initiatives• Knowledge of the formative and working offers• Knowledge of the different renewable energies• Knowledge and plan the way we work and live to achieve sustainabilityThe Sustainable Economy subject will be structured in three general theme blocks (each containing its didactic units):I. Sustainable Economy: general introduction to its concepts (renewable energies, recycling, biodiversity and environmental protection…)II. Training in new consumer habits that respect the environment.III. New proposals related to sustainable economy. Entrepreneur initiatives. The optional subject will be put into practice through a virtual learning environment such as eTwinning and can be addressed to 15 to 17 years old students (voluntary for students).2nd PHASE (2017-18): The optional subject will be included within the educational offer of the participating centres and will be carried out along the academic year. This phase will include student travelling to the different participating countries which will allow them to come into contact with other languages and cultures. Our idea is to continue offering the optional subject for some academic years after the end of the project and that other centres offer it in a short-term as well.Which results are we looking for?1. We aim at achieving a quality educational product: Sustainable Economy subject in OER format that can be studied online by the students of the different partners since it will belong to their curricular offer. The reasons for using the OER are due to:• Its ability to foster digital competence improvement.• Its ability to be transferred or exported to other centres.• It is an attractive didactic model.2. We want to produce an impact over the participants in several ways:• A change in individual and collective needs, attitudes and behaviours.• Promotion of an interest to learn about these new practices in later studies• Fostering working expectations as well as entrepreneurial initiatives in the field of sustainable economy.3. The dissemination of the project outcome to other educational centres and institutions. We have designed a dissemination and impact plan that spreads the results among the participating centres but also foresees the realization of three multiplier events to guarantee its external impact.
