Project Summary
The project “Cook healthy- eat healthy- live healthy” was run from 01.09. 2016 to 31.08. 2018. The coordinator was IPSSAR “P.pi Grimaldi” school from Modica, Italy. The others partners included Zespół Szkół Ponadgimnazjalnych, Ryglice, Poland, INSIGNARE – Associacao de Ensino e Formacao from Portugal, Liceul Tehnologic “Constantin Brancusi”, Romania and Kumburgaz Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi from Kumburgaz, Turkey. The main project aim was to settle the partnership based on exchange of good practices by means of promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, the project was meant to prevent social exclusion, discrimination, teach tolerance, creativity and how to search and use information. It enabled to learn foreign languages, improve sports, ICT, communication and social skills as well as increase knowledge on different European cultures. The project work and making new friends improved students’ presentation skills and increased their self- confidence.
Each partner had its subtopic in terms of which they fulfilled their tasks, both locally and during LTTAs. The Italian school “Requirements for a healthy life”, Portugal “Healthy eating habits”, Romanian school “Effective ways to prevent obesity”, the Polish school “Developing long-term healthy eating habits” and Turkey “Sports activities”. The metodology of the tasks and activities complied with each school’s organisation, students’ needs and abilities and teachers’ competences.
There were 2 international project meetings (TPMs) in Modica and in Kumburgaz and 4 mobilities (LTTAs) in Fatima, Satu Mare, Ryglice and Modica.
The first TPM was organised in Modica (2-3.12.2016): teachers talked about organizational issues, analyzed the initial questionnaire and set up a detailed plan of the project activities.
The first students exchange (C1) (20-24.02. 2017, in Fatima, PT) included culinary workshops (healthy dishes of each partner country, healthy desserts, healthy cocktails), website and e-book workshops as well as integration games and visiting the region. The final product was the “Recipes ebook” with recipes from each partner’s country, chosen and prepared during culinary lessons at each school beforehand.
The second LTTA (C2) (2-6.05.2017, in Satu Mare, Ro) included workshops on how to prevent obesity, how to deal with stress, healthy eating, carving and healthy sandwiches and a meeting with an expert. There were also essays presented by each partner. Students and teachers took part in sports activities prepared by the Turkish and Romanian partners. The meeting included both Romania and Turkish tasks as at the beginning of the project all the partners decided not to hold the LTTA in Turkey because of safety reasons. The final product was the e- book “Effective ways to prevent obesity”.
The third LTTA (C3) (19-23.03.2018, Ryglice, PL) included workshops on healthy and unhealthy food products, analysis of the questionnaire “Teenagers’ eating habits”, presentation of essays, nutritional and cultural values of eggs and fit desserts and vegetarian dishes workshops. The meeting also included workshops with psychologists, sports and integration activities. The final products were brochures about “DOs and DON’ts concerning the things we all should follow to lead a healthy lifestyle” and “Teenagers’ eating habits”, with statistical data.
The following LTTA (C4) (17-21.04.2018, I) was held in Modica, according to the Italian National Agency suggestion, which strongly advised to organize a fourth mobility to fulfil the Turkish partner’s tasks. It was mainly based on sports workshops and easy to do sports activities prepared by each partner school. The final product was an on-line magazine on sports activities in school environment and the meaning of a healthy lifestyle prepared by the Turkish partner.
The last TPM (6-8.06.2018, Istanbul, TK) included the analysis of cultural questionnaires made by each partner, comparison of the results of the initial and final questionnaire, presentation of general cultural questionnaire, work on Mobility Tool, analysis of the project website and discussion about the final duties and tasks.
As the results of the questionnaires applied throughout the project show, there was a positive, measurable impact on the level of participants’ awareness of healthy living, an increase of active lifestyle and greater involvement of schools in the long-term process of obesity reduction.
All the project tasks and activities (both local and international) were documented in form of photos, films, reports, questionnaires and the results were disseminated by means of local media, websites (the project website, schools websites, the project FB website) and during meetings with parents, with other teachers and during the Open Days. In addition, all schools had the opportunity to print and keep the paper version to be distributed to those who requested it, or to be used as a practical guide within the school.
