Project Summary
The project submitted concerned about sixty middle school students at the 5th, 4th and 3rd level, teachers, elected representatives, municipal agents and community volunteers from France and Portugal. It took place in particular within the framework of a twinning uniting Blain Commons and Alcoutim since July 14, 2005.
Its main ambition was for students to take ownership of the medieval heritage that exists on their territory, and to value it by developing a blog-type communication medium, and perhaps a paper medium, which would be common to the both institutions. This blog, and if necessary the paper support that could result, would serve as databases accessible to all students who study the Castle Groulaie or that of Alcoutim, and more generally the period of the Middle Ages . They would also become a valuable source of information for tourists from both sites and would be translated into French and Portuguese, then eventually into Spanish and English.
It has associated the City of Blain, applicant organization, and 4 partner organizations: the Committee of Twinning and International Relations of Blain and the college La Salle – Saint Laurent for France, the City of Alcoutim, and the group of colleges of Alcoutim for Portugal.
The activities proposed to the students allowed to create a web documentary long format common – support finally more adapted than a blog – and to prepare the 2 inherent displacements (stay of the French schoolboys in Portugal from Sunday 19th February to Wednesday 1st March, then stay Portuguese college students in France from Saturday 1st to Sunday 9th of April).
The activities developed were:
– participation in project preparation meetings,
– documentary research in documentation centers,
– visit the medieval and cultural sites involved in the project,
– training in the creation of a long-form documentary web story and the use of digital and multimedia tools,
– regular exchanges between teachers and coaches to take stock of the progress of the project in France and Portugal, give its opinion on the project in progress in the other institution, discuss successes and compare solutions to overcome any points blocking,
– the exchange of digital files through the Dropbox site,
– feeding the Facebook pages of the project,
– the reflection, in partnership with the municipal services, concerning the communication plan of the future site,
– the exchange of individual correspondence between French students and Portuguese students (presentation sheet, photographs, email addresses …) to promote inter-knowledge in the perspective of successive trips,
– writing articles in the local and regional press,
– the development of a mini dictionary including the main words / phrases / expressions needed in everyday life,
– the organization of an exhibition of pupils’ productions in school libraries,
– the publication of activities on the sites of the project partners,
– the development of the correspondent reception program,
– and the evaluation by questionnaires of the concepts discussed, the knowledge acquired and the representations revisited.
As part of their school trips, French and Portuguese students also made visits to tourist and heritage sites, participated in workshops on the long-form web documentary project and immersed themselves in their families. respective reception.
The project allowed the students to work on digital tools, to acquire the necessary knowledge to build a web-documentary and to learn the reasoned and critical use of these tools. The school exchanges planned under the project have facilitated the development and affirmation of schoolchildren by developing their knowledge and skills, while helping to forge an identity and a sense of belonging to the European Community.
The web-documentary created by the students has been put online (http://fredericlafondgrap.wixsite.com/erasmus) and it is now accessible from the websites of the 5 project partners.
