Project Summary
“Under the Same European Sky” is a two-year international Erasmus + project implemented by: SP3 (formerly G3) in Oleśnica and IES Puerto del Rosario (Intendentura). The main goal of the project was to create in the generation of young people the attitudes of those interested in the affairs of the local and European surroundings, and in particular in the problems of people with disabilities.
Meetings with people with dysfunctions, their parents, teachers , debates on how to help people with physical and intellectual disabilities, trainings (learning the basics of Braile and sign language) and lectures on types of disability and their symptoms contributed to the creation of empathy among young people towards people with dysfunctions, gaining knowledge and students’ involvement in working for people struggling with various problems. The participants of the project gained knowledge that was shared with their peers by completing a series of lessons and promoting integration with disabled people, encouraging them to participate in joint sports competitions.
As part of the project, an Agreement on mutual cooperation between SP3 and SOSW in Dobroszyce was signed. Together with SOSW, the following activities were implemented: young people participated in Ogólnopolskie Dni Treningowe Programu Aktywności Motorycznej Olimpiad Specjalnych as volunteers, handicraft workshops took place (participants of the project together with students of SOSW prepared Christmas decorations for Christmas fairs), SP3 students supported the organization of Integration Picnics for the disabled people (organization of games, artistic program, volunteering).
During the stay in Puerto del Rosario (short-term exchanges of students), Polish young people participated in different workshops: handicrafts with people with disabilities from the Aula Enclave, art and dance workshops with the residents of Residencia Insular de Discapacitados and Centro Específico de Educación Especial, lectures regarding the problems of the blind (covering the table with covered eyes, walking with a cane for a blind person), workshops on Spanish cuisine and what is more, they visited a vocational school (hairdresser) for students with educational deficits, they attended lessons at the IES Puerto del Rosario school (learning about the education system in Spain), meeting with the authorities of the city of Puerto del Rosario and they took part in an interview by the local radio and television to present the implemented project.
Students (SP3 and IES Puerto del Rosario) participated in competitions (logo, essay, photo), created multimedia dictionaries and presented the show “We Break the Barriers” for the school and local community. Cooperation and joint activities have created a sense of belonging to a common Europe in students, based on understanding and respecting multicultural diversity. Lectures on the history and geography of Poland and Spain, participation in 4 international exchanges, educational tours and visiting the country of the partner, helped to create in students a sense of European citizenship based on mutual understanding and respect for the distinctiveness.
The project was multidisciplinary, combining not only such areas as knowledge about society, European Union, history, geography, but also English, Spanish and modern information technologies. The students were motivated to learn foreign languages and they improved their language skills as well as those in the use of modern information techniques (practical additional classes in the Spanish language for students of SP3 in Oleśnica, the opportunity to exchange e-mails with their partners, create multimedia presentations and video clips, translations of texts into English, meetings with partners in the framework of international exchange and conversations in international groups, videoconferences, participation in the eTwinning project and the use of the TwinSpace platform).
Coordinators and teachers had the opportunity to exchange experiences in various fields of life (pedagogy, curriculum and organization) between different types of European schools to improve the educational offer. Thanks to the implementation of the project, the key linguistic and intercultural competences of pupils and teachers increased, mobility of exchange participants and attractiveness of schools increased, what is more, the international educational institutions were integrated and the existing methodology of work was enriched. Thanks to the project, we managed to break the existing stereotypes related to work with people with disabilities. Parents of pupils, local authorities, partner institutions and the media were involved in the implementation of the project and contributed to the dissemination of the project’s achievements. The organization of accompanying events (Monika Kuszyńska’s concert, festivals, fairs, outdoor events) allowed for even better dissemination of information about the project’s results.
