Project Summary
We aimed to build on an established link between three international partners; Mayfield Arts Cork, Rocket Artists Brighton and Outsider Art Atelier Amsterdam in the exploration of the possibilities and innovative approaches of studio based arts programmes. This partnership aimed to enhance the learning and development opportunities for adults with learning/developmental disabilities.
The partnership exchanged methodologies/approaches and models by using film as a tool to document learner’s studio arts practices and approaches touching on identity, inspiration, process and performance, while also developing the outcomes as a learning resource for the wider public. The Adult Learners were involved in mobilities, development of ICT and film production skills, online interactions and collaborations. The learning and pedagogical outcomes were enhanced by the involvement and feedback from the adult Learners. The approach was to involve managers/educators and Learners in the programme to ensure that all expertise and perspectives enhanced the project. We had a variety and good balance of activities supporting online communication, learning and creative interaction along with opportunities for managers/educators and learners to meet.
The approach had the following values/commitments from the partners
-A focus on the end outcomes for the adult learners.
-Mutual respect of perspectives and experiences of each other.
-A commitment to see the project through to a high standard.
-An openness to share and to learn.
Objectives:
– To bring together adult learners with Learning disabilities with a common focus on creativity and inclusion.
– To create opportunities for learners to present and celebrate their creative abilities and practises and share with an international audience.
– To share skills and gain new experiences in a supportive environment
– To explore each individuals creativity and innovative work practices and document for sharing with a wider audience.
– To create space for inter-cultural interaction and communication.
– To support learners confidence-building about approaches to learning
Number and profile of participants:
There were 100+ direct and indirect participants over the two year partnership, including staff, artists with learning disabilities and relevant stakeholders. The learners demonstrated an interest in the visual arts through their participation in cultural/ education programmes in their home country,
-they had interest in participating in an international learning opportunity.
– few of the learners have had little opportunity to access basic qualifications, or international learning opportunities
– Selection was based on: the motivation of the learner to engage with the visual arts and to engage in an international learning opportunity
-The capacity of the support organisations to support the learner in preparation and to collaborate with families/ carers to ensure adequate supports were provided
– Adequate provision of information around learners needs were given by supporting organisation
The core activities were
-Five day workshop involving all learners and staff, to learn film production, arts skills and digital learning, focusing on visual communication, documenting of approaches to learning and work. We provided certificates of attendance for learners.
A film and editing training booklet ‘Our Movie Making Tips’ created as a learning tool which is available online to the general public.
– Development of a project blog documenting the partnership and sharing films created for the wider public: www.channelthreeproject.wordpress.com
-Midway meeting to share the work of the group and ongoing progress of partnership. We aimed to strengthen the links between each partner while contributing to a joint collaborative film workshop.
-Ongoing over 2 years: Each partner works on their individual video pieces, uploading content to youtube channels. Online interacting and collaborating through social media and blogging site.
-Seminar event to disseminate project results – opportunity for learners and staff to share their learning via film screening and discussion with the general public.
– Uploading of completed films by learners on a dedicated You Tube site for access by the wider public; https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJstiRjKEZj1MsYpYvzkotw
– Completed Films also uploaded onto blog site; www.channelthreeproject.wordpress.com
-Production of DVD for distribution on conclusion of the project which will be made available to the general public.
Results and Impacts:
