Project Summary

Four institutions from three European countries (France, Spain and Austria) gathered around the project “PUT ART IN YOUR LIFE”. Students were able to discover essential pieces of work from European cultural heritage while developing their creativity, language skills and mastery of basic knowledge as well as know-how (writing, synthesis, oral expression, etc. ).
The pupils chose a piece of work from European heritage (painting, sculpture, book, film, music, monument) and studied it. They carried out research to comprehend the author of the chosen work, its theme, its symbolism, both its historical and artistic contexts and its diffusion on a European scale.

The Hispanic and Germanist groups then made a short documentary or a more “offbeat” film depending on their inspiration and creativity, with the work studied as central theme. The development of these films was carried out during trips to Spain and Austria in October 2019, and then remotely via social networks and videoconferences between students. To achieve this result, two types of actions have been implemented:
– virtual exchanges between students and their pen pals to enable both groups to share the results of their research, to prepare the writing of an oral presentation, to confront their ideas on the staging of the film. These exchanges took place via email, instant messaging and/or video conferencing.
– physical exchanges of two types: neutral places meetings (Paris in June 2019) and trips to partner schools. These meetings were an opportunity to present orally to the other students the presentations prepared by each group and to shoot the films.

During these stays, major cultural sites have cherished encounters and exchanges. In Paris, students were able to visit the Pompidou Museum, the Louvre Museum, the Picasso Museum, the Orsay Museum. They discovered the Marais neighborhood and monuments in Paris: Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame de Paris, department stores). In Vienna, The Belvedere Museum, the Prater, the Hofpurg and the Schonbrunn Castle as well as the Graz Opera House and the Spanish riding school. The Prado Museum, the Cathedral of Almundena, the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Reina Sofia Art Center, the old part of town of Salamanca and the Plaza Mayor. Students were thus confronted to the originality of some of the pieces of work studied. They participated in groupworks on artistic expression in each of the three partner countries and met with professional contributors on this occasion.

Towards the end of the project, French pupils were to welcome their Spanish and Austrian pen pals in Langres. Mobility was cancelled due to the Covid19 health crisis. The educational team decided to maintain the distribution of the films during a “festival” open to parents and more widely to the public. The videos were finalized by the Hispanic and Germanic students through virtual activities. This work maintained the students’ involvement in the program and finalized the productions. The festival took the form of a competition. Videos were posted on a platform inviting a large audience to vote. All of the students and parents of the school, all of the school’s Department of Education partners, partner companies, Spanish personalities from the world of art and cinema, and partners in Dubai and the United States were contacted.

A total of 1052 participants from all over the world took part in this vote and discovered the work carried out by the pupils during this Erasmus+ program. This competition highlighted the work of students, concluded the project, and allowed Erasmus to be widely and internationally recognized. A professional jury of teachers, from the cultural and entertainment spheres also met to award the prize.
