Project Summary
The Sharing And Learning Together project (SALT) has been formed by the association of three primary schools from different European countries (Spain, Ireland and Malta). In each school the project has been led by teachers specialized in various innovative pedagogies (cooperative and active learning, inclusion, ICT) who, aware of the complementarity of their knowledge, proposed this strategic partnership to share their good practices and increase the European dimension of their schools, since for two of the partners this has been their first approach to the Erasmus + program. The project aimed to generate networks among the partners in order to produce greater impact and sustainability for the project’s products and build the foundation for future collaborations.
The associated schools intended to achieve with this project the following objectives:
OBJECTIVE 1 (O1): Train the participating teachers in the best practices of each school (eTwinning, inclusion, new pedagogies and use of ICT) and incorporate them into their teaching practice. [Priority 1 and 3]
OBJECTIVE 2 (O2): Increase students competences in linguistic, social and civic communication, digital awareness and cultural expressions through their participation in an eTwinning project on Cultural Heritage in English [Priority 2]
OBJECTIVE 3 (O3): Increase the European Dimension of the educational community of partner schools, creating a network of centers with common interests that establish synergies to develop future KA229 projects. [Priority 1]
OBJECTIVE 4 (O4): Achieve an European eTwinning quality seal by meeting the 6 criteria (pedagogical innovation, curricular integration, communication and information exchange, collaboration between centers, use of technology and results, impact and documentation) of the rubrics of the Spanish National eTwinning Support System for the National Quality Seal. Achieve certification of each partner school with the ETWINNING SCHOOL seal. Achieve the EYCH Seal (European Year of Cultural Heritage) [Priority 1]
To achieve these objectives, an eTwinning Cultural Heritage project was carried out during the first year of the project and 2 short-term mobilities of teachers, a third one had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the project, students have worked in international groups, sharing experiences with colleagues from different cultures and countries, contextualizing the learning of the English language and improving their basic and transversal competences through the completion of scheduled activities in which they investigated relevant curricular topics and generated information and data that allowed them to produce products that were made visible by presenting them to the educational communities of their schools. Mobilities have allowed direct interaction between teachers (key to generating networks) and the attendance to workshops and activities not available in their schools. At the end of each mobility, the hosting school delivered a didactic unit that allowed the diffusion of the good practice between the association, in the case of the cancelled mobility the didactic unit was similarly shared. The teaching units are available online in the TwinSpace of the project that serves as a repository and were widely disseminated in the media, social networks, websites and Educational Institutions, following the dissemination plan of the project, thus generating abundant traffic towards them and encouraging its reuse by teachers at all levels from local / regional to European.
This association has aimed at creating a network of schools with common interests that will continue to develop projects in the future. The training that has been received by the teachers directly involved in the project has improved their teaching, providing them with new tools and ideas that will improve the skills not only of the students directly involved, but also of future generations of students. This has been a first step in a project with vocation for the future, in which the participating schools will continue promoting collaboration and the exchange of good practices at all levels of their educational communities, opening them to the outside world, thus preparing to face the challenges of the education of the XXI century.
