Project Summary
context / project background
All participating schools unanimously put the focus on increasing their effort in Europe-related work supported by active and vivid European projects. Goal is a constant development of teaching staff and student community including the school profiles. We aspire to involve students into the active project work (particularly the schools who did not travel with children before) as well as providing, increasing and using experiences (schools with practical traveling experience).
According to this background the project “Childhood in a box” was developed by six schools from Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy and Spain.
goals
Students and teachers reflect and work on their living circumstances in order to understand them as their fundamental base. The children get to know their own and European identity. The forming of stereotypes and prejudices is going to be counteracted by a real getting-together related to the gained experiences. The participants think about their values and compare them in order to work out culturally corresponding conceptions. The learning contents are to be used during the project and beyond.
The participating teachers are going to use and improve their knowledge about IT and increase their verbal skills in foreign languages.
number and profile of the participants
The project is going to be realised by students, teachers and afterschool teachers. Two teachers per country travel and visit joint short term staff meetings. Six children per country participate in short term student exchange meetings. The age of the traveling students is set from eight to twelve years. They are going to be accompanied by three adults (2 teachers and 1 afterschool teacher).
At the traveling destination there are younger students involved as well. The entire student community of the participating schools joins in the activities which are held during the duration of the project as well as the entire teaching staff (teachers and afterschool teachers) who are responsible for organization, implementation and evaluation. Parents are going to act as host families and support the local activities.

methodology
The methods of the project are designed in various ways in order to support a diverse access to the selected topic. The beginning activities are characterized by mind maps or clustering in order to collect the students ideas. The following activities during the first year are going to take place in a discovering and experiencing way. Under the motto “moving” the participants explore the learning contents actively. The second year puts the focus on social learning goals. Common implementation, scenic plays, interviews and abstraction to the meta-level are the chosen methods.
All reflection activities and feedbacks are going to be clarified by schemes and diagrammes.
