Project Summary
WALKING THE LINE has been an Erasmus + project created by schools from Spain, Germany, Italy, Romania and Lithuania.
It has been done from the educational possibilities offered by trails, hiking trails or other outdoor activities.
Our goals have consisted of preparing, planning and using the routes to achieve the following objectives:
1. Practicing a physical activity in the natural environment (a trekking / trekking in each country).
2. Involving students in outdoor activities, as well as developing their autonomy and respect for nature and everything that surrounds them.
3. Improving basic student skills related to new technologies and English.
4. Increasing the acquisition of healthy habits.
5. Trying to overcome the socioeconomic disadvantages and achieve the integration of all students.
6. Through the project activities, especially the proposed walks, students can develop a deep understanding of the story and answer questions about the present by knowing the past. These activities can arouse their curiosity and involve students with the dilemmas, choices and beliefs of people in the past.
7. Developing your sense of European citizenship.
The characteristics of the association:
The partners of this project started from different experiences in the execution of European projects, and all of them sharing interest in sport and physical activities.
In addition to common problems (poorly motivated students, bullying, integration of disadvantaged students) and sharing the same values, (dignity, freedom of expression, democracy, equality) something that has been achieved through knowing our historical past.
In this project on intercultural learning through historical paths, they have met with many people from different European countries, to share cultures, experiences and learning from others or, using hiking as a framework.
Pupils from each school have participated in local activities, and more than one hundred pupils and teachers have taken part in school exchange activities (or ‘foreign exchange programmes’ ) over the course of the project’s two-year duration.
The pupils participated actively in the project, shared ideas and worked cooperatively with other pupils of different ages in their own and associated schools. As a result, the number of pupils who regularly engage in healthy physical activity has increased, and their basic skills (in new technologies, history, geography and English) have improved. At the same time they have learned to become more independent and developed greater respect for nature, healthy habits , integration, and an understanding of history and European values have been strengthened.
