Project Summary
The purpose of this project is to make our students more conscious of the work of the European Union and to strengthen the implementation of the European Idea in both schools, the ITC Scaruffi Levi Tricolore and the BHAK Spittal/ Drau. We want to encourage a sense of European identity and the understanding of democracy. The participants will consider and reflect upon the regional, national and European sense of identity and compare it with partners.
In the course of the school year the two schools will work on the following topic: investigating the development of the European Union and its influence on national legislation and the citizens’ sense of identity. It is assumed that the students have a basic knowledge of domestic law and its hierarchical structure and of national and European history of the 20th and 21st century. The students will get the expert knowledge in the subjects law, civic education, history and German/Italian. In these lessons there will also be time for reflection.
Moreover, the students should also learn the specifics of what the European Union does for its citizens. This is also in accordance with our motto: “WE and the European Union”. Therefore, the two groups will investigate which projects were promoted in their hometowns, which collaborations there are between the two regions Carinthia / Emilia-Romagna and the European Union, and which representative offices or associations can be found there. The two meetings in Italy and Austria should be used to compare the results and, if possible, to visit these facilities/institutions.
We want to strengthen the sense of European identity with the help of the trip to Brussels, which we will take together. The participants will visit the European institutions and get to know members of the European parliament on a personal level. Our goal is to encourage a European cooperation by promoting discussions between Italian and Austrian students and representatives of the EU.
The project should encourage the participants to become more active in politics and convince them that we all are political players and can therefore actively shape our society.
Including teachers, there are 21 participants, mostly 17 and 18-year-old students in the 4th years at the business secondary schools in Spittal/Drau and Reggio Emilia.
