Project Summary
The third French/German exchange with our school partner Collège du Pinier in Melle will take place over two stages in the school year 2020 / 2021. The project focuses on “friends through play” and thereby embraces both social and linguistic elements. Under the motto “through play we will become friends” (devenir amis en jouant), various and diverse games will be played in both schools, which will promote social interaction and intercultural exchange between the French and German languages and cultures.
The German students will learn traditional French games while also participating in other cultural activities, such as a town treasure hunt and taking part in lessons with their exchange partner in school. Similarly, traditional and communicative games and cultural activities will form a major part of the exchange when the French students visit Nauen.
The main focus in both schools will thus be on “mutual play” during both legs of the exchange. To reinforce key skills and linguistic competence there will be extensive dialogue between the exchange students through communicative and team-based tasks. This multidisciplinary approach will draw on the core strengths of both schools and thereby underpin the growing partnership.
The exchange will have clear outcomes. Firstly, the students will collaboratively produce a language and culture game (the main prize – das verstehe ich nicht so ganz), and secondly they will work together to produce a mindmap with game-related vocabulary.
In addition to this tangible and results-driven approach the students will share their results through a variety of means, including digitally through the school newsletter or via a virtual exchange platform such as eTwinning.
The long-term goal is to build upon our continued success in raising interest and enjoyment in the foreign language and culture, and to draw on the outcomes of the exchange in school lessons so that we may strengthen the deepening partnership between both schools.
There will be 21 year 9 students from Collège du Pinier and 15 students from years 8 and 9 from the Leonardo da Vinci Campus. The French students have been learning German for three years.
