Project Summary
Love nature, Live Naturally is a two-year ERASMUS+ strategic school partnership project that involves primary schools from Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Italy, Poland and Greece. It is a project
focused on developing knowledge, skills and positive attitudes on how to interact with the environment in a sustainable manner. It is important for children to know the environment in its totality so that they can value it, because one cannot value something that one does not know. Through environmental education, which includes the four branches of Environmental Inquiry: Inquiry-based Learning, Integrated Learning, Experiential Learning, and Stewardship, learners will be able to know their environment just as the way they know reading, writing and arithmetic which are referred to as the 3Rs. A lot of effort is made to help learners know the 3 Rs, so in a similar manner we should help them to know their environment and how to relate to it. This approach has an innate potential to elicit students’ natural curiosity about the world and to create a classroom culture of learning that is purposeful, fun, productive, and responsive to students. The target group of the project are primary students, aged 9– 12. Participation in the projects activities will have positive impact on their social, psychological, academic and physical health, including the following: supports creativity and problem solving; enhances cognitive abilities; improves academic performance; reduces Attention Deficit Disorder symptoms; increases physical activity; improves eyesight; improves social relations; improves self-discipline; reduces stress. Through nature study, children can learn how they affect the environment as well as how the environment affects them. By having rich and varied opportunities to experience and explore nature, children can begin to value and appreciate their immediate world and
will hopefully generalize this knowledge to other situations and places.
The main objectives of the project are:
-Promoting environmental education through effective and innovative teaching, to make the invisible visible in an enjoyable and inspiring way. The project targets educators and students aged 9-12 years. It is designed to promote student action competence. Knowledge about nature services engenders motivation.
– Integrating environmental education into the school curriculum;
– Improving the school’s efficiency through increasing the level of qualification of staff working at the institution, increasing the motivation and the level of engagement of the teachers towards the learning process;
– Providing the school with teaching material for the integration of ecological subjects and subjects concerning sustainable development in different subjects in a primary school section;
– Increasing the quality of learning process in school and improving the students’ level of achievements.
The project involves five primary schools from 6 countries: Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Italy, Poland and Greece. The partner schools differ in the educational programmes, in the size, in the cultural
background which provides an opportunity to broaden our horizons and increase our awareness and tolerance of other European cultures. What the partner schools have in common is the motivation and desire to work cooperatively in an international partnership. Our students also have a lot in common. In all partner schools there are students with different cultural background, students with learning difficulties and talented students and all of them need individual approach and innovative methods are needed to find a way how to improve their results and help them to feel satisfied with their studies. Over 1000 participants will be involved in the long-term and short-term project activities and events including students, teachers, local authorities, parents.
6 LTTA short-term exchanges of pupils will be organised in the 6 participating countries: 25 students and 10 teachers from each country (Turkey, Romania, Italy, Poland, Greece, Bulgaria) will be involved. All project activities will focus on understanding and implementing the principles of harmony in nature and the ecosystem services, through which the goals of environmental education to be achieved, and thus the objectives of the project. To implement our partnership and hit our objectives we have shared tasks amongst us according to each other’s experience and expertise. All tasks and responsibilities are interconnected so all the partner schools will be in close and regular contact.
Schools will organize exhibitions to disseminate the outputs. In the course of the project, parents and more students will be involved as users of the same service – education. The expected impact of improved communication skills and team interaction also includes ensuring the adaptation of participants towards the concept of education for sustainable development.
