Project Summary
We have a strong ECO culture and a curriculum which has enabled us to produce a project which benefits our school, we have called it “Providing work experience for sustainable futures.” As a school we are very conscious of the environment we live in and how climate change has affected our region. We would like to share our knowledge and learn from others regarding what it is like in different environments and how the environment can be used to form a career. We seek to find enterprising ways linking in work experience within sustainability. For this project we have joined up with a school in Paris to share our knowledge of how we use different resources to try to encourage our students to become more sustainable not only in school but home life as well. This project will expand our school eco life into the environment around us. We plan on linking in work experience placements by using our Cycle Safari Bike Track.
Our objectives for this project are to be sustainable in two different ways, being sustainable within the environment but also using the environment to sustain a profitable enterprise project with the Cycle safari. From this we are going to run sustainable activities within our individual schools and share expertise, resources and work through the eTwinning platform. Work will be carried out on a monthly basis covering the many issues and topics related to the environment and sustainability.
The activities we have planned throughout the year include introducing ourselves by creating recyclable self-portraits, having regular assemblies, Switch off fortnight, farm to fork, world wild life day, waste week, paper waste activities, litter collection analysis and finally we will have a celebration event for the successful completion of our project. However we plan on building our relationship with Paris and will continue to support them with their Eco/work experience curriculum and complete further projects with them in the future. Each topic will be discussed within each school and work produced will be shared on eTwinning.
We plan to run 2 mobility’s, The 1st mobility will involve Paris students coming to observe us in the UK and take part in our work experience by working on our sustainable bike track. They will plan, advertise and run a cycle event amongst other sustainable activities.
The 2nd mobility will involve UK to Paris and will be creating recycled artwork in which they will use the skills we have taught from the previous mobility of how to set up a sustainable business within a sustainable/Eco curriculum. This will help with student and staff motivation and confidence of how to link sustainable projects with work experience placements, in turn developing life skills for future employment. Our hope is that this mobility will summarise all of the previous month’s activities, work and learning into a feasible, attainable Eco curriculum with work experience placements available. As a result of this we will have supported them setting up a future Eco business.
All students taking part will have special educational needs therefore this will be a small group of participants within the mobility’s. There will be 4 students from both schools with 1 to 1 support to ensure safety of pupils at all times. We want to increase awareness and empathy from students on how they affect the environment.
The impact for our school as a result of the project will be that we will have used what we have learnt from our partner school to help us to gain and reaccredit awards such as International school and Gold Food for life. We will have a successful model to run our work experience as a business. For our partner school in Paris they will feel supported and encouraged by working along-side us to increase their sustainable, eco curriculum and use knowledge learnt to input work experience activities within their school. The potential long term benefits to both schools are that the pupils taking part, not only will they have been to visit another country and increased their confidence but they will have a greater understanding of work available to them when they leave school after taking part in sustainable work experience placements.
To conclude our project will promote Sustainability with built in work experience placements within both schools encouraging pupils to build empathy and confidence and think about the greater needs of our world. The UK itself is a very small country however the possibilities of what we can achieve are endless and by linking in with a school in Paris we are sharing our knowledge and making the world a better place.
