Project Summary
“Without music, life would be a mistake” ― Friedrich Nietzsche. We are all familiar with the extraordinary power of music to not only evoke emotion, but also to bind us into a group. Think of your feelings at times of group singing – the singing of the national anthem, singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ at New Year’s Eve, singing in church, campfire singing, … fill in your own experience. Music and language are both important in helping humans form large social groups, and some of the attributes of music are particularly memorable, and can be used to assist learning.
Through this project, we would like to achieve different objectives:
– Improve language skills,
– Develop intercultural skills,
– Increase the motivation to learn modern language.
– boost confidence through peer-to-peer collaboration / give our students the chance to interact with peers from a school overseas.
– develop their skills and an appreciation for cultural diversity
– involve students in tasks they find interesting
– create professional development opportunities for teachers .
The project includes 30 students from 14, 15 years old and 4 teachers ( 2 music teachers and one English and one French teacher). Different activities will be organised via eTwinnings around the project “Language is music”. Four visits ( in total) will be also organised in France and the Netherlands in order to practice together. At the end, students will perform in front of the educational community and reflect on their experiences via a diary and a music portfolio.
The benefits of the exchange programme will be:
-Immerse in a different culture : experiencing a new culture and its customs, and a new education system from that at home is truly an eye-opener. Students will taste new food, see new traditions and have a better understanding and appreciation for other cultures.
-Hone their language skills : there is a perfect way to polish up their language skills as they can practice these foreign languages with their native speakers.
– Build self-confidence and independence : living in a different country requires frequent communication with people from another culture, which inevitably improves one’s self-confidence. A better understanding and enhanced knowledge also plays a part in building confidence.
It also requires a great deal of independence to take care of oneself and resolve one’s own issues. This not only leads to higher sense of independence and dependability, but also better resourcefulness and problem-solving skills.
Music through songs and melodies is part of our national heritage and it is all the part our universal wealth. Languages are enhanced in songs and music; the language of the body is highlighted though the practice of percussions.
