Project Summary
We decided to work on ‘LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 in STEM school education’ project because our students’ basic maths and science skills are not sufficient. The analysis of students’ marks, their exam results, class register proved that this statement is true. Thus, the participation in this project leads to the growth of teachers’ qualifications and competences, the growth of the quality of school work as well as some European dimension. Our students broaden their horizons, boost their STEM knowledge and skills thank to the workshops and educational trips. The project is about the use of LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 sets in maths and science education. The robotics and the theme of the project are a part of every school curriculum and the majority of planned activities are impleneted into regular classes.
The main aims of the project are: the growth of teachers’ knowledge and skills in the area of STEM and ICT tools use in education, the growth of students’ mathematical, science and technology, language, digital key competences, the increase education efficiency in science, maths, technology, engineering. The implementation of innovative teaching methods, new ICT tools leads to European dimmension of our schools. The observation of our students, and talks with them show that they are eager to participate in extra programming and robotics classes, they are able to use robots during maths and science. Our students develop their basic key competences. We prevent the early school students exclusion and increase their chances to get to high school. In addition to that, our aim is to equiped them with basic digital skills which are a part of VET and job market needs. More and more work positions are automatized. We propose to attend some interesting
school and international classes, we want to motivate them to learn. The experience of the project influence their future job and work career and it makes our students active European citizens. Moreover, we would like to share our experience with other teachers from partner schools nad learn good practices from each other. There is a project website which will be operated during the whole year. We also organise 3 short-term exchanges of group of students and 3 short-term joint staff trining events and the main implemented methods would be: project method, active and innovative methods with the use of ICT tools. We are sure that the project results in more motivated students, who have broader language, mathematical, cooperation skills, boost their digital, programming and engineering skills. The products of the project are: educational aids (flashcards, exercises, presentations), the leaflet with maths, science and technology lesson plans, the guide “The use of educational sets of LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 among school students aged 13-15, the guide “The use of LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 in education of students aged 13-15.
