Project Summary

The project “Let´s break stereotypical thinking” involves secondary schools from three different countries: Poland, Spain and Italy.
The main problem discovered during needs’ analysis is existing stereotypical attitudes towards different cultures and values and the lack of system solutions to combate it. The main aim is to reduce existing stereotypical attitudes towards diversity, promote acceptance, increase intercultural understanding (connected to priority social inclusion) to prepare schools for working in multicultural society. We aim to redefine European citizenship based on values as freedom and tolerance. The project involves 48 students (aged 15-19, 50% of them are threatened with some kind of exclusion), 12 teachers – for international mobilities and the whole schools societies (including parents) for local activities. Spain and Italy has already facing the problem of discrimination and segregation having the 8% immigrants in school society. Poland have no immigrants yet but observe increasing of radicalization of the students presenting stereotypical thinking against the diversity. Partners have different experiences and competences so that each of them will be the leader in some areas (like e-Twinning, IT, bilingual teaching, communication). Seeing the lack of system solutions for immigrantes as well as dydactic tools and materials for teachers to create the open and tollerant environment we are motived fot the project to build a new potential for schools and become a leader in this area in our local environments.

Our objectives are:
– Building a civil society based on openness, tolerance and a mutual respect of values and worldview – introducing a civil education programme to schools and enriching programmes of humanistic subjects in such contents as culture, history, tradition and modern social problems of partner countries, legal solutions and current state of migration in Europe (long-term impact);
– Creating a friendly atmosphere for immigrants, developing a help programme for immigrants (long-term impact);
– Equipping teachers with interpersonal, cultural, psychological and sociological competences as well as methodical materials which help in a didactic and educational process concering intercultural integration, leading teaching process in a culturally and worldview diverse environment (long-term impact);
– Building an international potential of schools – staff experienced in managing international partner projects, prepared fot the next projects ((long-term impact);
– To increase critical thinking – enriching curriculums in questions of social stereotypes, media communication, language of advertisment, manipulation and ways of dealing with them (long-term impact);
– Developing of linguistic and IT competences of teachers and students;
– Promoting school as an environment which aids the development of a civil society based on European values and counteracting social exclusion –Formal introduction of World Refugee Day, Europe Day and Erasmus Day to a school calendar (long-term impact);

We want to reach our results by local and international activities, including 3 mobilities in Poland, Italy and Spain:
– Excursions to discover the value of European cultural heritage and explore there the main topic of the project;
– Trips and activities in multicultural groups to break national barriers and build relationships;
– Workshops for students and teachers to increase multicultural understanding, to promote cooperative learning, to increase critical thinking;
-International discussing panel and meetings with experts;
– Meetings with parents;
– Exhibitions and meetings for the local community;
– Writing articles for the local press;
– Preparing common happening in the city;
– Sharing ideas and results of work on e-Twinning and TwinSpace platform and Facebook Project Profile;
