Project Summary

The project took place at all participating schools to enable the students to actively participate in the design of their learning environment. It enabled them to develop skills that would increase their chances in the job market, as many of them came from uneducated parents and had learning difficulties.
At the beginning, the students from all schools participating in the project were divided into 4 teams. Each team chose a target product, e.g. erecting a graffiti wall in the schoolyard, designing an outer wall of the school building, setting up a school garden, building play facilities in the schoolyard for breaks, designing seating elements in the schoolyard.
These teams took on the planning and implementation of the products in the spirit of a student company. They also had to distribute and take on the various roles in a company, from company boss, architect, draftsman / planner, press officer and calculator to craftsman. In the TwinSpace on eTwinning and in other social networks they got in contact and discussed their approach. They planned the necessary materials, techniques and, if necessary, the support of local companies. They calculated the costs and documented their work steps. During this phase the students acquired a variety of skills, e.g. problem-solving skills, mathematical skills, social skills, communication skills, foreign language skills, IT skills and manual skills.
Schools started implementing their projects differently. In the project meetings, everyone worked together on implementing the planned products. In the meetings, the teams presented their results and worked together on the presentation of their work to other interested schools, for the European results platform and for the presentation in eTwinning.
In the specific case, this meant for the product team in Germany: The students / the team planned the height and length of the graffiti wall. The participating students from the partner countries, who could not be there, had to be informed about the location and the surrounding area through pictures / videos. All of them visited a construction company and asked about the material requirements, the costs and the procedure for building a wall. The students acquired knowledge in the individual trades, e.g. in painting, woodworking and horticulture.
A mini internship to acquire the necessary manual skills, e.g. the bricklaying could not take place in Germany due to the shutdown from March to May 2020.
In the TwinSpace, the students exchanged their knowledge and decided on a practicable variant. They recorded the way up to this decision in the form of a presentation and made it visible to all other teams in the TwinSpace. From this point on, work on the products could begin. In each school, it was determined when this would happen: either every week in 1 to 2 hours or in a longer period of 1 to 2 days. Here, too, the students documented every step and exchanged ideas in their team in the TwinSpace.
In the project meetings, the students continued to work on the respective products on site and / or on the presentation of their work as a student company.
In July 2020, the work on all products was finished, whereby the German students were no longer involved in the construction, as there were no face-to-face lessons in full classes until the end of the school year. This was done by a partner company of the school. The planned graffiti course could not be carried out either.
All completed work was presented in the TwinSpace.
