Project Summary

Language learning is very important not only for the school life of a child to get better marks, but also for the real life, to get a better job, for travelling. It is a requirement of globalization. After a thorough study and research on new methodologies for teaching foreign languages, we came to the conclusion that CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and TELL (Technology Enhanced Learning) are the most viable in adopting a holistic approach to language teaching and learning. CLIL is considered as a driver to innovation by the European Commission, as well as an effective methodology, which can contribute to improving the quality of education all over the member states.
The objectives of our project are linked to the priorities we have selected.
Promoting a comprehensive approach to language teaching and learning through applying the CLIL and TELL methodology:
1. to develop students’ language skills in English up to one level from the start to the end of the project (based on the diagnostic test, from A1 to A2, from A2 to B1), where they can apply their language skills to longer, more complex sentences that will help them to be confident users of English
Tackling early school leaving and disadvantage:
2. We have a high-rate of absenteeism from 6th grade onward and early school leaving cases starting from the 8th grade. Transitions between levels and types of schools can be a moment where problems arise and it is important for schools to focus on prevention from early years, before it becomes a problem. With this project, aimed for students 10-12, we want to prevent absenteeism and early school leaving, creating a flexible and positive pathway from primary to secondary education.
Social inclusion, improving the educational process through designing lessons based on students’ learning styles, managing the classroom to create a safe and supportive environment for all students, delivering lessons to reach everyone in class by using differentiated instruction method:
3. to promote universal access to education to all students of our schools, to provide an environment that accommodates learners’ diversity, including varied learning needs, to maximize each student’s potential
There are 4 schools involved from Romania, Lithuania, Spain and Portugal:
1. Liceul Tehnologic “Octavian Goga” Jibou – has primary, secondary and technical/vocational education. The pupils’ age participating in this project is 10-12.
2. Vilniaus Sausio 13-osios progimnazija, Lithuania – an educational organization providing primary, lower secondary and special needs education. The pupils’ age participating in this project is 10-14.
3. C.E.I.P. Santa María del Mar, Spain – has roughly 280 pupils aged from 3 to 12, 23 teachers and two educative assistants, for physically impaired pupils, has 46 pupils with different special needs (language, cognitive disabilities, autism, behavioral disorders and others). The pupils’ age participating in this project is 10-12.
4. Agrupamento de Escolas do Barreiro, Portugal – integrates both Primary School and Elementary school. There are also several pupils with learning difficulties of different type and some students who need special education.
Concrete results we would like to produce:
1. Two brochures of the collaborative work of the students. In the first year they will work on creating an ideal school and in the second, the ideal country.
2. A book with the CLIL lesson plans and activities with parental involvement.
3. Online media: official Facebook page, website of the project and public Twinspace Pages.
The main target groups we would like to share our results with, are teachers of English and of other subjects, school leaders who would like to implement the CLIL methodology in their schools/classes. Our final result, the book “Click on e-CLIL” will not only offer 20 Civics Education, 20 Geography and 20 History ready-to-use CLIL lessons, but they will learn about a variety of digital Apps and tools they can use during these lessons and in projects and also 16 activities with detailed descriptions of how can parents be involved in school life together with their children.
This is a project for exchanges of good practices and participating schools will learn from each other in terms of teaching practices, school organization and management, classroom management, different action plans, that they will further implement in their own schools. Their participation in a European project will raise the profile of the schools involved and interest of parents towards the activities of the schools.
We will continue to use our final result in the classroom, the book “Click on e-CLIL”. Another activity, which will be maintained after the end of the project, is the involvement of parents in school activities. We intend to create activities in which parents will be involved at least once per semester.
