Project Summary
“Cultural heritages and ancient peoples: enhancing different Roots and build a Common European future – C.I.R.C.E.” is coordinated by the IIS M. Hack, in partnership with 5 high schools in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Turkey and Greece and focuses on cultural heritage as driver of economic growth, employment and social cohesion. C.I.R.C.E. unites the main cultures that gave birth to the European people: Romans, Greeks, Ottomans, Saxons, Vikings and Scandinavian tribes represent the protagonists who, all along the history of the continent, have more influenced in shaping the cultural, architectural humus, urban planning and the social dynamics that govern European society today.
Cultural heritage is a powerful tool that contributes to build a sense of common belonging in European citizens: the focus on the populations of the past and the tangible traces that these have left on the territories has a significant identity value. The first European added value consists in the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue that are the basis of the EU integration process: deepening the stories of the European peoples to acquire skills of European citizenship, develop tolerance and acceptance of others, promote integration and multiculturalism is a key asset of the project.
The second aspect addressed is the economic potential linked to the enhancement of the cultural heritage linked to the peoples of the history of Europe. Pupils will be challenged to generate ideas for cultural and creative enterprises based on what they have learned, developing skills in self-employment.
Finally, the third element consists in the incorporation of innovative ICT tools for the use and enhancement of material and immaterial heritage.
General purpose:
– increase awareness of the importance of European cultural heritage as a vehicle for social inclusion, a driver of employment and economic growth
– promote new participatory and intercultural approaches for the enjoyment and enhancement of the cultural heritage linked to the peoples who inhabited the European territory in history, also through the use of ICT
– promote intercultural dialogue through the knowledge of the traditions, customs and uses of the peoples of the past and how these have left their mark in the current culture
Specific objectives:
– to deepen the intercultural, digital, entrepreneurial and transversal skills of the students, as well as develop their sense of belonging to Europe, through the creation of itineraries to experience the tangible and intangible cultural heritage linked to the peoples of the past
– directly train 20 teachers of humanities/artistic subjects in the use of new technologies for the enjoyment of the cultural and immaterial heritage of their territory and the mentorship for the development of entrepreneurial/citizenship skills of students
The main products developed by the students directly involved will be:
– 6 itineraries, built in the footsteps of the various European peoples of the past who inhabited the territories where today the partner schools are located
– 6 ideas of cultural and / or tourist enterprise, created following the experience of the itineraries that took place during exchanges between students, validated with the methods of Lean Javelin and Canvas
While the learning outcomes will be related to the acquisition, by the students involved, of transversal, intercultural and citizenship skills.
These objectives will be achieved through the realization of:
– two joint staff training events for 3 teachers per partner, one in Italy and one in Greece, focused on the acquisition of skills for the use of ICT tools in the humanistic and artistic disciplines and on competence-based teaching, especially citizenship skills and how these they are nurtured in various educational systems
– six exchanges between pupils, with the direct involvement of 20 students between 16 and 18 – of whom 10% with fewer opportunities – and 2 accompanying teachers per partner, in blended mode with preparation and follow-up through eTwinning. Students will experiment the itinerary developed by the students of the host country and will start-up a cultural and / or tourist enterprise linked to the themes of the experimented itinerary: these start-ups will then be “cultivated” in a protected environment once back home and results will be exchanged through eTwinning.
Furthermore, a series of local activities are planned, such as participation in the European Heritage Days.
In the medium-long term, benefits will be obtained at the individual level, for pupils and teachers directly involved, for all the teachers of Arts/Humanities of the partner schools, as well as for all the students of the classes involved in the local activities. A significant impact will also be recorded at the level of the school system, for all partners, thanks to an internationalization of curricula and the qualification of educational offers.
