Project Summary
Education for Sustainable Development is explicitly recognised in Objective 4.7 of the “Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development”, the action programme for people, the planet and prosperity signed by UN member countries, as a tool for students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote Sustainable Development, becoming its conscientious agents and learning to act responsibly for environmental integrity, economic sustainability and a fairer society. The project “R.EU.S.E. – paRtnership of EUropean School to develope Enviromental sustainability skills in students” was born from the need expressed by schools in partnership (the I.I.S.S. “Volta – De Gemmis”, Colegiul Technic “Constantin Brancusi”, the “Prizma” Campus IdP and the “Kaunas Vocational School of Household Services and Business”) to direct their students to the protection of the environment and the territory in order to increase their soft and hard skills, useful for their personal growth and future employment capacity, and act on their individual and collective behavior. The need to strengthen the “enviromental sustainability skills” of the students of the partner schools is justified if we consider the weak capacity of the territories of origin of the learners to face the challenges posed by the paradigm of Sustainable Development.
The “R.EU.S.E.” project will promote the creation of a transnational training course in Romania, Belgium, Lithuania and Italy that will encourage the participating students involved (128 students enrolled in classes III and IV of the partner schools – 32 for each school) to reflect on the weaknesses of the waste disposal systems adopted in their countries of origin and to imagine methods for reducing the production of waste, using behaviors aimed at recycling and reuse. The final output of the project will be the creation of a Sharing Economy Platform for the reuse of objects, materials but also places and spaces, which students will have to imagine and develop their functioning. A handbook will also be created in which participants will describe proposals and ideas for reflection aimed at encouraging greater dissemination of recycling and reuse practices within their communities.
The objectives of the project will be:
– to strengthen the participants’ key, transversal and technical-digital skills;
– raise students’ awareness of the use of behaviours and lifestyles that are more respectful of the environment around them;
– to strengthen the internationalisation strategies of the partner schools through the exchange and comparison with school systems in other countries;
– to innovate the Training Offers of the partner schools, aiming at the stabilization in the didactic paths of activities of education for Sustainable Development.
“R.EU.S.E.” foresees the realization of 4 transnational exchanges in Romania, Lithuania, Belgium and Italy, which will be attended by a delegation of 8 students enrolled in classes III and IV for each school partner (for a total of 32 participants per exchange). In addition, a total of 16 teachers from the language, science, computer science and technical disciplines will be involved (4 for each partner school): 8 teachers will take part in the transnational project meetings (2 for each school) and a further 8 (2 for each school) will act as mentors during the transnational exchange phases for the students.
The project will have the following impacts on the participating students:
– Enhancement of language skills;
– Development of “enviromental sustainability skills”;
– Improvement of functional alphabetical skills, research, analysis and argumentation of their ideas;
– Enhancement of digital competences;
– Improvement of basic skills in science subjects;
– Strengthening critical thinking and transversal competences;
– Increasing competences of cultural awareness and expression;
– Improvement of personal, social and learning competences.
“R.EU.S.E” is planned in order to produce positive impacts also on the Training Offers of the partner schools and on their internationalization strategies, thanks to the competences acquired by the teachers who will take part in the activities and actions of restitution of the results that will develop. The expected impacts on schools will be:
– Introduction of didactic actions typical of education for sustainable development and environmental sustainability within the training courses offered by the Schools;
– Improvement of the educational activities developed according to the approaches of active, digital and laboratory teaching;
– Increase in the number of project proposals that the partner schools can submit under the Erasmus+ Programme or under eTwinning.
